3 /5 Hemphill John (GameOnJohn): The girlfriend and I have made it a mission to try every Indian restaurant in the Yuba Sutter area. With such a large Indian community here, we’re blessed with plenty of great options, so we were excited to finally check Lakeside Indian Cuisine off our list.
The first thing we noticed was the pricing, noticeably higher than other local spots, in some cases nearly double. We figured maybe the food or service would justify it, so we went in with an open mind.
When we sat down, however, the waitress kept steering us toward different (and pricier) items, almost like a car salesperson trying to upsell. It felt a little pushy. In the end, we ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Shahi Paneer with a garlic naan, plus samosas and Paneer Pakora on the side.
The samosas ended up being the highlight of the meal, crisp, flavorful, and paired with some of the best chutneys I’ve ever had. The Paneer Pakora was different from what we’re used to but still decent, while the naan came out a little dry. Unfortunately, both the Chicken Tikka Masala and Shahi Paneer were swimming in oil, more than the usual richness you expect with these dishes, to the point where it was a bit hard to enjoy.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but it didn’t really win us over either. We didn’t hate it, but we didn’t love it. We’ll probably give it another shot down the line and update our thoughts if things improve.
