Los Grullenses - (Near Salinas, CA)

4 /5 Jessie Johnson: I love the food at Los Grullenses. My go to order is the pastor quesadilla and a large of beans and rice. I can make three meals out of this order. But, if I’m honest, I really make the drive over from Monterey for their green salsa. It is sooo good. The atmosphere isn’t the best so I get my food to go. The constant struggle is the salsa. I’m not quite sure what the deal is. They make you pay for salsa, which I’m grouchy about but it’s my favorite so I’m willing to pay. The order for salsa is literally called “4 salsas” and the menu photo shows 4 tiny containers of salsa. Despite ordering it, I almost never get this in my to-go bag, sometimes it’s 2 or 3 tiny containers but rarely 4. So then I have to ask and I hate having to ask because I am paying for it, it’s part of my order, it shouldn’t be so hard. And I order via DoorDash takeaway so there is no room for a language barrier, it’s as plain as day: 4 salsas. I will continue to go and recommend LG but make sure you check your orders before leaving. Would definitely be 5 star for me if this wasn’t such a consistent issue.

4 /5 Bobbi Black: #1 4 tacos. Food: Meat tender and flavorful. Only downside is the tortillas had no flavor. Service: Spanish only, so was really difficult when they were calling out orders to be picked up. Didnt understand anything and had to go by sight of what I ordered. Atmosphere: nothing special just a hole in the wall place. What I did find amusing though, one wall had religious pictures on it, and across from it the other wall had a wanted poster. All in all 8/10

1 /5 Eve Marie: I have been coming to this place for over 15 years and apparently there is new ownership. I sat with a female truck driver who was having the same experience. We were both lamenting the beautiful, delicious salsas of the past that now you are lucky to get and have no heat to them. I asked if they still made their Al Pastor from scratch which they confirmed. The meat had no cinnamon in it, no pineapple, no hint of Clove or cardamom. The meat was bland and tasteless and over salted as if they were trying to keep it from going bad. To be honest, I nearly had a tear falling from my cheek missing the amazing food that used to be worth driving out of your way for. I used to try to make trips to Salinas just to be able to come and pick up burritos and maybe a dish of shrimp à la Diabla. The amount of meat in the burrito was ridiculously small. If I cut the burrito into eight piece pieces like a piece of pie, there would only have been 1/8th meat. Will somebody please tell me the best place to go for all pastor now?

5 /5 Amy Minnick: Wow, so good! I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla and the flavoring is something Ive never tasted before. Very unique to me and I will be eating here again if Im in the area. Good selection of beer. The staff/owners are very friendly. Its a small building across the street from the Pilot. Thanks for a delicious meal!
