Volcano Union Pub + Inn - Volcano

Rating: 4.7 /5
Brian Olson This review is specific to my experience at the pub. The food is spectacular but that doesn’t tell the whole story. For breakfast we were met by our server whose name is Eric. He was just a humble, kind, servant. In conversation with him we came to find out that Eric was not only our server but also the chef who runs the kitchen and the wait staff. We were blown away. The food was soooo good. While dining there I noticed pictures of him with the kitchen and wait staff. I could tell this was a tight-knit team. While having dinner there it was busy and I saw him interact with the wait-staff in a positive way. I could tell that he respects and likes his team and they feel the same about him. It all made for a super-positive vibe! This is unusual in the hospitality and restaurant world. At dinner Chef Eric asked us if we would be staying for breakfast the following morning. We told him we couldn’t stay as we had to get to work early. That night he prepared a delicious frittata, and added a scone and granola/parfait for my wife and I and had it in the hotel fridge that we could grab and go in the morning. He went way above and beyond. I will never forget his humility, kindness and true hospitality.

The Restaurant at Convict Lake - Mammoth Lakes

Rating: 4.7 /5
Shelly G We booked The Restaurant at Convict Lake weeks before our trip after reading glowing reviews—and it did not disappoint. For our last night before heading home, we were looking for something memorable, and this place delivered a true five-star experience. The restaurant has a charming old-school vibe with a rich sense of history. The walls are adorned with beautiful artwork and impressively mounted trout caught right from Convict Lake, giving the space a warm, rustic elegance. The servers were outstanding—attentive, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the menu. From start to finish, the service was polished and friendly without being stuffy. The menu was impressive and well-curated. We started with the escargot, which came beautifully presented beneath a golden puff pastry crust—absolutely delicious. For dinner, Erik chose the trout while I went with the beef Wellington. Both entrées were beautifully plated with mashed potatoes, a vibrant carrot purée, and perfectly cooked asparagus. The flavors were rich, balanced, and comforting. While this is certainly a fine dining restaurant—with white tablecloths and an elevated atmosphere—private booths for seating and it still feels welcoming and relaxed. You don’t need to dress to the nines, but skip the shorts and flip-flops out of respect for the space and fellow diners. Although the cocktail list featured traditional favorites, we passed after a full day of activities. I did, however, enjoy a generous pour of Sequoia Grove Cabernet that paired beautifully with the beef Wellington. It’s tucked away in the middle of nowhere, but if you’re staying at Convict Lake Resort or nearby McGee’s Resort, this should absolutely be on your list. A true gem in the Eastern Sierra.

Press Quesadilla Grill - San Luis Obispo

Mai Finally, a local place for great quesadilla, burrito, build your own bowl with plenty parkings - close to California market. They have the same proteins as Chipotle, with four different kinds of delicious sauces. We ordered the quesadilla, and it was huge, tasty, crunchy, and served in a nice recycled box. Very reasonable price. The service is very fast with happy, friendly staff. There are plenty of sitting areas with large windows and high ceilings. Great job, press! Definitely recommend.
