4 /5 Sponge Bob: We visited Coney Island Drive-Inn, January 2026. We arrived close to opening time, so it was quiet when we arrived. Although it didn’t stay that way very long. By the time we left, there were people taking up most inside and outdoor covered tables. So they get a good crowd.
Coney Island probably took its name from the famous Coney Island in New York, that in itself, world renown for hot dogs, among other things. So the “World Famous Footlong” moniker is fitting to go with their name.
The establishment consists of multiple buildings, a covered outdoor dining section, as well as an outdoor section behind the building. Coney Island is covered with lots of memorabilia and such basically everywhere. A lot of younger folks probably won’t know what they are looking at, when it comes to some things. But they’ll probably realize that it’s old and cool. And the noise level definitely grows with the crowd.
The restaurant itself isn’t the cleanest place we’ve ever been. But it wasn’t filthy either. It is probably difficult to keep a place like this extremely sanitized. So just go with it and enjoy the experience. It is fun looking around and having this type of food.
Now the food. We didn’t find the food to be all that great. I’m not going to say what we ordered since tastes and opinions do differ drastically. You may find the food different than what we felt. But next time we stop in, we’ll probably try something else on the menu. The food wasn’t terrible. But to us, it definitely didn’t live up to all the hype. Maybe what we didn’t try yet will change our opinion. And your opinion may also be totally different. Either way, it’s worth the time to visit and try out Coney Island Drive-Inn. The memorabilia probably makes it worth the visit. I gave them four stars more for the experience. If we enjoy the food better next time, maybe the rating will change.
