3 /5 Michael Espeseth: Kalye Grill & Lumpia offers a taste of Filipino cuisine with a mix of hits and misses. During my recent visit, I sampled their Chicken Teriyaki combo, which was decent but didnt quite hit the mark in terms of flavor. The portions were average, and while the dish was satisfactory, it didnt leave a lasting impression.
Similarly, the Pork on a stick combo had a decent taste, but I found the meat to be on the fattier side. While it provided a satisfying meal, the slightly higher prices seemed a bit unjustified given the portion sizes and the quality of the meat.
The fried rice served alongside the combos lacked the robust flavor I was expecting, and I noticed a peppery taste that overshadowed other flavors. It served its purpose as a side dish, but it didnt enhance the overall dining experience as much as I had hoped.
Included with the meal was lumpia, which was okay but needed the accompanying dip to add flavor. While it provided a nice addition to the meal, it didnt stand out as much as I had anticipated.
Overall, my experience at Kalye Grill & Lumpia was good, but it fell short of my expectations in terms of flavor. While the dishes were satisfactory, they didnt deliver the bold and vibrant flavors I associate with Filipino cuisine. Despite this, I would be willing to give it another try in the future, even given them being on a pricier side for the portion sizes.
