5 /5 Ed Woodham: Macon Street Tacos on the McDonough Square (16 Macon Street) is everything you want in a hometown restaurant – and then some. They serve Mexican cuisine with a wonderfully generous and well-executed menu: perfectly cooked tacos, street fries, nachos, quesadillas, and more. Beyond the food, they also offer ice cream, Jarritos sodas, coffee, tea, and lemonade, alongside a thoughtful selection of craft beer, margaritas, and sangria. Do yourself a favor and order the Margarita Swirl – it’s excellent and festive in all the right ways.
I’m a McDonough native son who has lived in New York City for over 40 years, and Macon Street Tacos is always a must-stop whenever I’m home. This holiday season, we chose it as the gathering place for our 50-year reunion of the Henry County High School Class of 1975, and it could not have been more perfect. Owners Katy and Becky are the very definition of gracious hospitality – welcoming, warm, and genuinely invested in making everyone feel at home. They opened their doors (and hearts) to us, and our group had a magnificent time celebrating in their charming back room.
The staff truly shines. Servers Emma and Sydney were fun, professional, and attentive throughout the evening. Shane generously helped us with the sound system, and Asher was fantastic when we stopped by a few days before the event to walk through the space. Every interaction was marked by positivity, care, and a sincere desire to make the experience special.
Thank you, Macon Street Tacos, Becky and Katy & the entire team for making our reunion into a forever-treasured memory. I’ll be back on every visit home, and it’s no surprise that many of my local friends make this their regular weekly meeting spot. Great food, great drinks, and smart, heartfelt hospitality – this place is a true gem on the Square.
