3 /5 WW- Peace Is My Joy: Came from Atlanta to visit family and was invited to come here on a Friday night. Im from Columbus and was initially skeptical about going anywhere off Victory drive but once I heard that no one under 30 is allowed, that they play mostly southern soul, there is security and that children are not allowed after 7pm, I was quickly relieved and was ready to have a good time in a grown folk atmosphere. Once inside, I saw a sign with the owner listed as a sista so that made my heart smile doubly because as a black women entrepreneur myself, I have no problem going out my way to support my people, especially a sista!
It was small but packed, the DJ was awesome and kept us vibing and the happy hour frozen drinks were delicious (I ordered the frozen strawberry margarita). Be warned, there isnta dance floor so just shake ya azz in ya chair or dance in the aisle. It didn’t bother me though as I loved seeing my people having a good time with no fighting!.
Now, the not so good! Not enough servers, bartenders and the money I spent on food was a waste! It was clear that they were very understaffed because a lounge that popping shouldve had at least 2 servers each table, especially during happy hour because some folk waited at least 20 minutes for drinks each time we ordered so that was a drag. The wings? DO NOT ORDER unless you like rock hard wings. They have a wing combo for $6 and although the fries were good and the sweet tea was super sweet (just like I like it), the wings were way overcooked, despite me requesting they be cooked soft. I took them back to get some that were soft and Ill be damned if they didnt come out harder than the 1st batch! I didnt eat them so they were trashed so basically I spent $6 for fries and tea. I wanted to order the pork chops but opted not to as I imagine it wouldve been dried out from being fried too hard too. My friend had the lemonade and poured it out as it was too tart. The poor bartender probably did her best to keep up with the demand but they definitely need 2 bartenders! My server, I cant remember her name, but she did the best she could under the circumstances so I tipped her $20.
I love to support black businesses but I can tell you now that no matter how good the DJ or the vibe is, if the food isnt right and the drinks are either bad or coming out too slow, a business can decline quick so I hope they can hire more servers, another bartender and get a cook who doesnt fry everything as if they are trying to make sure its dead! Ill definitely go back whenever Im in town again and may drive the 2 hrs once a month just to support the sistas business but definitely will not order the wings! The fries and sweet tea, yes but definitely not the wings! Oh, they have good chewy ice so that was a plus.
So again, if you wanna have a good time in a grown up atmosphere and you love southern soul, you should go, but avoid ordering the wings! Just get a basket of fries.
