Larry Ballard Yesterday we were in Dahlonega , GA . So was everybody else . Autumn in the mountains … The parking situation was pretty dismal around the square making it impossible to visit out usual haunts , and while cutting through the college campus to go to the other side of town we “ discovered “ a college haunt , Johnny B’s Pizza . It had a lived in look, sprawling in an old building that was once a multi-storefront , now completely taken over by Johnny B’s. They had a bar , several dining rooms , a patio and a screened in porch . The pizza was Chicago thin , and pretty good . The cheese was not greasy , which means it’s good cheese, the pepperoni was a little bland , but not bad . My only complaint is I ordered extra cheese and heavy sauce and I think the server got confused and thought I said light sauce . The sauce that was there was pretty good . We had mozzarella sticks , they were hand battered . The pizza was tasty , and the wings were voted the best in town 6 years running by the local newspaper readership - my wife confirms that they are in fact , the best around , and she is a wing -nut ! Will be going back !

Ada Fisher I recently visited Reens Bratzeit & Biergarten during my trip to the area, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we stepped in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere embraced us. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Jagersnitzel with mushroom gravy. The dish was a true delight, with the flavors blending perfectly. The tender schnitzel accompanied by the rich mushroom gravy left me craving for more. It was a culinary masterpiece. The vinegar-based potato salad served at room temperature was a revelation. It was the best potato salad Ive ever had. The tangy and refreshing taste complemented the meal perfectly, making it a standout dish. To satisfy my sweet tooth, I indulged in the German cheesecake, and it was simply heavenly. The creamy texture, coupled with the delightful flavors, made it an absolute treat. I must also commend the dedication of the staff and the owner. The owner himself worked behind the bar and served us a selection of Dunkle and heirewizen beers, which were both delicious and refreshing. The cook, James, added a touch of entertainment to our dining experience with his witty banter and playful exchanges with the owner. It was an enjoyable and fun-filled evening. What struck me the most was the sense of community and camaraderie among the locals. Reens Bratzeit & Biergarten seems to be a popular spot where everyone knows everyone. As an out-of-towner, I felt welcomed and included in the laughter and jokes shared by the locals. It was a heartwarming experience that made me feel like a part of the community, even if just for a little while. Overall, my visit to Reens Bratzeit & Biergarten was nothing short of exceptional. The delicious food, friendly staff, and vibrant atmosphere created an experience that will stay with me for a long time. I highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for an authentic German dining experience with a side of warm hospitality.

John Hornick Chef’s Apprentice Category: Irish pub. This pub and restaurant has something for everyone: a pub on the entry level, a rustic dining room upstairs (which is also street-level, with a ramp, for handicapped guests), and a patio. The pub is the kind of place we would want to be at night, for drinking or dining of both. It looks like a great place for — wait for it — shenanigans. The pub itself is quite an investment, as every square inch of it, including the ceiling, is wallpapered in Greenbacks. Money may not grow on trees, but it grows on this pub’s walls. The bar itself seats about 6 and several hightops with stools provide more seating behind the stairs. We were there for a post-wedding brunch, so we sat in the upstairs dining room at a table for 13. Shenanigans also happen here, on the graffiti wall. Later on this beautiful mid-November afternoon we would have enjoyed the patio, or even at night at one of the firepit tables. Everyone in our group said they loved their food choices. Sarah loved her grilled cheese sandwich and I enjoyed my generous Irish scramble with bacon added. Great place for a casual meal, a pub crawl, or afternoon drinks on the patio. YouTube’s Chef’s Apprentice

Jenn Stalvey Wonderful place! We arrived at a busy lunch time and sat at the bar. The young lady behind the bar was great and made a delicious Bloody Mary. We were just seeking a light lunch, so we shared two appetizers. We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes and the Shrimp Eggrolls... both which were delicious! Would definitely go back!

James Collins Absolutely phenomenal experience! We started with the tour and tasting with Bri. Not only was she an amazing host and funny as heck, but a wealth of knowledge about the process and history. She also has a passion for the growth of the local North GA wine culture and shares her excitement for its future. During the tour, she got to know us a little and discovered some of our likes and dislikes so when it came time for the tasting, she knew exactly what to share with us. She was absolutely ON POINT. For dinner, we had an early reservation, but it turned out to be perfect timing as the sun set right as we were finishing our meal. The environment was perfect as we watched as the light settled across the vineyard while we took our last sips of wine. Our server, Ellie I think her name was, shared the right amount of energy and space. Always smiling when she approached the table, her service and attentiveness was perfect. We did not interact with management, but you can just tell it is a very well run establishment. Would HIGHLY recommend the full experience. We will most definitely be back.

David Correll We try to eat at Bourbon Street whenever we are in Dahlonega. There are 2 levels of the restaurant but they treat the separately. Downstairs is larger with a bigger bar seating and several seats outside with table heaters as well. We prefer to sit on the 2nd floor balcony overlooking the Christmas lights. There are lots of Cajun options. See the pictures of our food for this visit. The cup of gumbo was loaded and delicious. The burger was big and pretty decent. We loved the roasted sweet potatoes. And the crabcake was delicious. Nothing beats the views and location of Bourbon street. Plenty of street parking in front and behind the building. There are lots of shops and other restaurants near by. The Hall House hotel is also located on this property

E. Lisa (Peachy in Georgia) This review is specifically for the Thanksgiving dinner at the Smith House! I’ve been here for other meals and they were delicious, but we just went to the Thanksgiving feast and I wanted to review that for other people who were curious about the experience. We parked behind the Smith House, down the hill and on the UNG campus. There’s a whole lot of parking over there on Thanksgiving because all the kids are gone for the holiday. Then, we walked back up the hill to the restaurant. They do not take reservations for Thanksgiving and they will be BUSY. Please know, that means you are going to have quite a wait! The food is worth it, but if you have senior citizens in your group or children that will have trouble being patient, this could be challenging for you. Bring snacks and something to keep the kids entertained. I had called a few days before and asked when the least busy time of day would be for us to come on Thanksgiving. I was told to come at 2 o’clock, which we did. I should also have asked how long the wait was going to be at that time – and I would’ve planned differently, lol. We were a party of 3 and we waited about 90 minutes before getting seated. However, when we were finished eating it was a little after 5 o’clock and there were very few people waiting at that time, so I would say if you can wait until later in the day for your meal this might be the better plan! There are very few places to sit while you’re waiting, so a lot of folks were just standing outside on the lawn waiting to be called and it was a chilly day. You can wait in the lobby, but it is crowded and again, there aren’t places to sit although inside, you can get beer or wine or sodas while you wait and explore the little gift shop and the little gold mining museum downstairs as well. You are given a ticket when you check in. They call groups of ticket numbers to pay for their meal at the desk in the lobby in advance when seating becomes available for your dining group. You are asked at the time of payment to leave your tip and they assured me that the money we were leaving is going to towards our server downstairs. When we were finally taken downstairs to dine, we were HUNGRY! We were sat family style at a table with seven other people. There was tea, lemonade or water to drink and the servers came around with carts of food for us. The servers were very busy, but everyone was so sweet and had a smile on their face. We got delicious yeast rolls and corn muffins and butter before the majority of the food came out and then the table was just covered in Thanksgiving favorites! In addition to platters of turkey, ham and gravy, they also serve their amazing fried chicken at the Thanksgiving meal. Y’all, this was THE reason we went to the Smith House on Thanksgiving – we were going to get a traditional Thanksgiving meal with family a few days later, so I wanted that fried chicken and it was THE BEST! The servers bring out bowls of awesome sides - crispy fried okra, creamy macaroni and cheese, silky creamed corn, dressing and cranberry sauce and more. Everything was southern perfection. I was surprised mashed potatoes were not on the menu, but it’s not like we went hungry without them! Everyone passes the sides around the table and takes their fill. If your table runs out of something, you can request another bowl of it from your server. After the main meal, coffee was served with pumpkin pie and pecan pie. I asked for one slice of each because, why not?! I thought the pecan pie was actually the better of the two! I would absolutely go back here for the Thanksgiving feast again. But I would also eat a little snacky before I left the house now that I know the wait is going to be significant lol.

Cassandra Bickel The piazza and appetizers were delicious. Not a huge fan of their bruschetta, but the knots and fried cheese were amazing. I got the white pizza. And YUM!! The ricotta was a great added touch. Would definitely try again. Parking can be challenging though.
