River Port Restaurant & Lounge - Beardstown

Alex Toutant The food was great but could use a little more seasoning. I had the catfish fritters. They were great. The atmosphere was nice and there was a good view of the river. They are also not scared to try out new recipes. They just launched a sloppy joe that looks and tastes very good. recommend this place

Mike Kula A Rueben is an easy sandwich to make bad and a difficult sandwich to make excellent. I asked the waitress for a recommendation and this Rueban was by far the best Ive had. My sons French toast was gently crusted to a golden brown perfection on the high ends without being burnt and my wifes simple biscuits and gravy were spot on homemade. I also had a cup of each soup. I came from NJ, the land of diners. I grew up working in diners, dives and restaurants. Just because a place is inexpensive doesnt mean it has to taste cheap. This diners cook was spot on perfect and the waitress was beyond pleasant. Youd never even know the diner was packed full as attentive and responsive as she remained to each of her guests. One of the greatest dining experiences Ive had in a long time. I will fly all of my family into Peoria just to have an excuse for a 45 minute trip to go to this wonderful establishment. Thank you to all the staff and owners for creating such a wonderful experience. This is what going out to eat used to be like! I wish I recalled my waitresses name but she knows who she is. After all, how many people order a rueban sandwich.

Shakerag Bar & Grill - Mulberry Grove

Dave B Clean, quaint and full of locals so the food must be good. I can only comment on the chili and it was good. Friendly atmosphere and just a short distance off the interstate. A pleasant alternative to the usual roadway fast food options. Subsequent visit updates: Prompt and friendly service, good burger, great tenderloin sandwich, salads are basic iceberg and simple toppings . Wings might be smoked in advance but dropped in the deep fryer to heat them up and ours were overcooked and dry on this visit but the sauce was good and helped make them edible. Definitely above average for bar food and we will continue to patronize but don’t expect white a tablecloth or candles. Always a Daily special like meatloaf, burger specials, livers and gizzards or stroganoff that seems to be popular with the locals. Family friendly and welcoming. When traveling 70 through Illinois this is still a better option than the fast food and gas station food that awaits you down the road. Stop in and give them a try. New menu has a great selection of gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. Menu photos updated 7/25.

Bailey Bryan (Beetle) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars – Texan -Approved BBQ Worth the Stop I’ve been stopping at this place for years — long before Covid — whenever I roll through town next to the Love’s truck stop. Let me tell you, it blows fast food at the truck stop out of the water every single time. This is REAL barbecue, done right. The new remodel is fantastic — the building is bigger, more spacious, and feels brand new inside. They didn’t just rebuild; they upgraded. Now there’s plenty of room, new amenities, and even a line of merchandise so you can take a little piece of PCB BBQ with you on the road. On top of that, they now serve cold beer on tap and in cans, which makes the experience even better after a long haul. The food? Absolutely top-notch. The pulled pork is smoky and tender, brisket is melt-in-your-mouth, and the ribs fall right off the bone. Their nachos are a meal in themselves, piled high with queso, pork, jalapeños, olives, sour cream, and sauce — Texas-sized and Texas-flavored. Even the sides hit hard: the mac n cheese is rich and creamy, the beans pack smoky flavor, and the slaw and tater salad are fresh and classic. And it’s not just for the humans — they even sell smoked dog bones for your four-legged copilot. My Aussie loves them, and it’s a great touch that shows they really think about everyone who rolls through. If you’re tired of the same old fast food options at Love’s, do yourself a favor and walk over here instead. This place has been consistently excellent for years, and now with the remodel and alcohol, it’s better than ever. As a Texan who knows good BBQ, this place gets my stamp of approval every single time. $4 Dog Bones , $3 cans of beer…
