Banana Leaf Thai Cuisine - Belleville

Rating: 4.6 /5
sutherlandk19 Banana Leaf is a new Thai restaurant in the west end of Belleville, a new staple to the neighborhood.  I went with family on a Friday night before going to see a football game at Belleville West (teachers there are lucky to have such tasty food just down the street) and had the chance to try a bite of everyones dishes.  After reading through the menu, I asked the cashier what the best thing on the menu is.  Josh was so helpful!  He told me the yellow curry is his favorite, the chicken satay appetizer has the best flavor, and the drunken noodle and honey garlic chicken are bestsellers.  I ordered the yellow curry and shared chicken satay with the table.  Out of the four of us dining, we all agreed I had the best dish.  The rest of the family got the drunken noodle, chicken pad Thai, and the honey garlic chicken.  I think the drunken noodle was the least memorable out of all the dishes.  The chicken pad Thai had excellent flavor.  Most Thai restaurants, I ask for lime wedges on the side to squeeze on this dish, but it wasnt close to needing it.  The honey garlic chicken was full of flavor, but a little basic compared to the rest of the table. The restaurant suggests they only offer takeout, but there is limited seating inside and outside.  We even had table service, which was a shock since they specifically advertise takeout only.  I was thoroughly impressed by the price of it all- I think we paid $65 or less for four dinners and an appetizer.  I almost went back the next night for dinner, I am eager for my return visit. Added note: The cucumber (served with the chicken satay) I thought had the best flavor out of everything I tried.

Izumi Rotary and Bar - Springfield

Cove This place was wonderful! You have to be careful not to go out of your budget in the grabbing frenzy. This place was clean, well lit, and most importantly the food was fabulous! The service was a bit slow- but to be fair most of this restaurant is self serve. By the end, my friend and I had acquired quite the collection of plates (including some on the fun robot!). It was a great experience and we will definitely be returning!

Cured and Cultured - Belleville

Rating: 4.4 /5
sutherlandk19 My husband and I stopped in at Cured and Cultured for a late-in-the-day anniversary lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The place was empty (it was 2:30pm when we got there) and we had the whole place to ourselves. I really havent heard people talk about Cured and Cultured, which is surprising because the food was INCREDIBLE. Every bite of each food item is flavor-packed, and not too rich at the same time. The husband ordered sweet Thai chili- and lemon pepper-seasoned chicken wings with a side of french fries (deep fried in peanut oil I think) and sipped on some Woodford Reserve. I enjoyed Leos brisket sandwich (recommended to me by our very attentive server, Matt) with a side of bacon ranch pasta salad. The flavors complemented each other perfectly and the portion sizes were just right. The restaurant benefits from a full bar and a patio out back for warmer weather and live music. I was surprised to see a mini liquor store when we first walked in. I even questioned if we went to the right place because it doesnt even appear to be a restaurant. At the checkout counter is a deli where I believe customers can take home choice items. Im excited to return during the warmer months to try more food on their menu and enjoy some music on the back patio. It was wonderful to have such a great dining experience on that side of Belleville. Its providing a much-needed boost to the area. After tip for two people- an entree, a side, and an alcoholic drink per person; we spent more than $70. I get inflation, but I do wish food this good was more accessible. Updated note: Returned for my second visit two years later celebrating Fathers Day and my dad said their bleu cheese was the best hes ever had. Valerie took care of us on this visit and was so friendly and helpful. Eager for my next visit!

Betsy Walker Simply exceptional. There was no dish I disliked in all 12 courses and there were a few that were mind blowing. I got the anything but wine pairing as well (4 stars there) and all the cocktails were fantastic. One or two of more straightforward spirits/beers just alright Service was friendly and prompt - plates cleared immediately and my water never less than half full. For atmosphere point off because it’s all counter/bar seating (which is nice to see the cooking) but sometime it was hard to hear the server explaining the dish if they didn’t project and you may have to sit next to strangers if that’s not your thing. The people I sat next to were lovely though
