McAlisters Deli - (Near Effingham, IL)

Tim Swiat We had a Retirement Dinner here last night and there was not one empty plate in sight! Started with the Bruchetta and Duck Dates...wow. A huge miss if you dont at least try one. While tough to pick a favorite, I think the Bruchetta was the winner. Fresh, crisp vegetables and the right amount of char on the bread. As for entrees, Scallops, Salmon, Filet Mignon, 22oz Bone-In Ribeye, and the 16oz Bone-In Buffalo were all well-enjoyed. While I very much enjoyed the Filet Mignon, I slash able to sneak a bite of the Buffalo, and there is the winner! Perfectly seared and lean...outstanding. Took home the Key Lime Pie to share at home, and so glad I did. Amazing and attentive service, great atmosphere, and cocktails to enjoy well-prepared. Looking forward to visiting again when in town. Tricia Friendly, helpful waitress, good service, delicious food, and served hot. They make their own mashed potatoes from scratch, same with the creamy broccoli soup! Yummy!! I had just come from a major dental appointment, and I needed soft food as half my mouth was numb. The tilapia and mashed potatoes were PERFECT! The soup hit the spot, as well. My husband had the liver and onions, and he very much enjoyed that, too. The servings are generous. The place is cute and cozy. All good things! If I lived there, Id go back! Definitely top notch.

Kristin Riehl Really enjoyed our visit! The lighting and decor is very cozy. We did small plates to share, and everything was delicious. The little burgers were especially good! The chicken pot pie was a special of the day, and was excellently seasoned. Really enjoyed the apple puff pastry for dessert to share. We will definitely be back for date night soon!

Eboni Harris This place is a real gem in Springfield. They have a Chef, I know it is a bar but I am going to call the him a Chef because he is actually cooking real food from scratch with real ingredients and custom recipes. The prices are low, so low you might question the quality but the quality is outstanding. This isnt your usual Springfield restaurant serving you reheated frozen food from Sysco or GFS. They hand batter the mushrooms (hard to find if you live fried mushrooms), and the chicken strip. The burgers are amazing and juicy, perfect ratios of fat to meat content. The bread is outstanding. The specialty breads like the jalapeños cornbread is a real interesting treat. The cheese sauce is a garlic cheese sauce that is different from the normal here and a real delight. The French fries are amazing. They coke with salt and pepper on them for that added special touch. The servers are friendly and attentive. The draft drink specials are great. They have plenty of outdoor seating and a window you can order from outside if you are so inclined. The only downside is they stop taking food order at 8pm. Other than that this place is absolutely perfect.
