Steak n Shake - (Near Mattoon, IL)

4 /5 Cindy & Mike Myer: My food was only passible. The bun was hard and the fries didnt taste fresh. My burger was a bit greasy as others noted. All edible, but not great. The star of the show was the staff and cleanliness. Staff were friendly, helpful, and appropriately occupied. No one was standing around while I self served my drink. Interactions among staff were friendly. They werent crazy busy, and staff delivered my food instead of calling my name. I appreciated the basic kindness of service. The booths and general areas were clean. No sticky feet on the floor. A restroom visit revealed pride in their store. Clean, organized, and fresh. Overall, a pleasant change from many modern Steak and Shakes where staff seem to have given up. Kudos to management.

5 /5 Kathleen Jones: My husband and I had not eaten there in a long time. It was by far the best experience we have had eating out. The staff were super friendly and the food was amazing, really fresh and cooked perfectly.

5 /5 Aj Sue: Steak ‘n Shake makes a good burger…. Always fresh, hot and consistent. The fries are always a little too skinny for me, but these were at least very crispy. Our server at this particular steak ‘n Shake (“Gracee”) was phenomenal.

1 /5 Troy Baker: I got 4 patties only. Someone was not very smart when they put them in a small little box that dont hold liquid. These patties we not drained at all! They ruined my shorts and my shirt. It leaked in my car on the seat and the whole bottom of the bag was soaked due to box leaking. A little common sense please!!! You should definitely replace my clothes!! Im hoping the car will clean up but cloths are history due to incompetence.

5 /5 Christina Wilburn: My husband, son and I went to visit my daughter at college in Charleston, Illinois. We were getting ready to head back to Edwardsville, Illinois and begrudgingly stopped at Steak and Shake in Mattoon, Illinois. I say begrudgingly because since they have changed to pretty much self service, everything has gone downhill in our area. The service is horrible, the places are usually dirty and we just stopped going. When we entered this store, it was busy but the place was cleaner than ever. As soon as someone was leaving someone else was cleaning the table. They were short staffed yet the manager was out dropping food off to people so they didnt have to go and get it. The food was excellent. I do wish you guys had booster seats but he, not a big deal. I was extremely impressed with this restaurant and let the manager know as well. Will definitely be going back when visiting.
