5 /5 Samina Chowdhury: Just found one of NYC’s newest Mediterranean steakhouses and it’s stunning from the moment you step inside! Essex has been a staple for over 20 years, housed in a beautiful historic loft style building and has recently undergone a full rebrand and remodel. The space now blends modern elegance with classic architectural charm, creating an upscale yet inviting dining atmosphere. From the stylish interiors to the perfectly cooked steaks and elevated appetizers, every detail feels intentional and refined. If you’re searching for a new NYC restaurant for date nights, celebrations or an upscale dinner spot in Manhattan, this is definitely one to add to your must visit list. Loved everything here!

5 /5 Laura Diorio: We got the champagne brunch and it was a fantastic deal! Great drinks, delicious food, the manchego mac and cheese is a must. The interior is stunning after the renovation, perfect place for a date or large parties. Service was super attentive — my water was never empty lol. And Katie was a doll. Such a fabulous gal. 5 /5 Travel With Chyna: Decided to go on a solo date here and I really enjoyed my time! The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The place itself is lovely, spacious with bar seating, table seating, making it perfect for a solo visit, a date night, or hanging out with friends. The food was fantastic and full of flavor. The fried calamari was crispy and came with a delicious sauce. The rice and chicken skewers were absolutely tasty. I also loved the pineapple cake, it had the perfect balance of sweet pineapple and also tasted cornbread flavor too, but it was good and moist. I’m not much of a drinker, but the Mango Lava Lamp drink was really good! This spot is a winner and I’ll definitely be coming back, whether solo, on a date, or with friends.

2 /5 Paul Kelly: Apologies upfront for the length of this review. However, a lot went awry whilst we we “dined” here…We dined here as a party of three (my son, his girlfriend, and I) on Nov. 8. We ordered a number of shared plates and one entree. One of the shared dishes was Shishito peppers. My son is allergic to walnuts. The dish arrived and was topped with what resembled crushed nuts of some kind. We asked a staff member what it was topped with and he said he’d need to check with the kitchen. He came back about 10 minutes later to inform us that it was some sort of mixed nuts but was not able to tell us exactly what was in there. The menu didn’t specify either. Another of the shared items was hummus and other dipping items served with Pita. The amount of pita slices was minimal compared to the amount of the various spreads. We finished the pita and requested more from one of the staff and were told he’d have to check with our server (who was hardly available during our entire meal). After 5 mins or so we flagged down another staff member and requested more pita and were told the same thing and waited…We made one more attempt with another staff member and finally after another 10 mins were given more pita. Again the amount was very little. So we had to go through the same ordeal again to get more pita. After about 90 mins we’d still not received our one entree. We were finally able to speak with our original server who looked up our order and said that it will be ready soon. At that point we’d had enough of the poor service and told her to forget the entree and give us our check. (We strongly suspect she never put in the order for our entree). The thing is that the food we did have was fantastic. Unfortunately the service was sooo poor that we would not dine here again nor can we recommend this to anyone.
