Freemans - (Near New York, NY)

5 /5 Kathy D: I wavered between a 4 and a 5 but decided on the higher rating due to overall experience. Absolutely beautiful restaurant. Down a graffiti filled alley, multiple rooms and two bars. Charming at the highest level. You felt like you were in a few hundred year old home. We ended up in an almost private room at the back of the restaurant because we were a larger group and it was perfect. We started with devils on horseback and artichoke dip. Both excellent. The dip was not overly cheesy or greasy but had great flavor. The bread was nothing special but the dip was great. The devils on horseback were cooked well. Dark rich flavor. The bacon wasn’t greasy and it had a perfect amount of cheese. We shared both the kale caesar and grain salad and would order both again. Both were not overly dressed and had great flavor. We added bacon to the caesar and it was a generous portion and crispy. The grain salad had a little tang to it and was very refreshing. Also shared the Nashville hot chicken. Again generous portion. Chicken was cooked really well, very moist on the inside and crunchy and sticky on the outside. I don’t think it had much of a kick heat wise but was very tasty. The waffle was a little disappointing. It was barely warm when served and didn’t have much flavor, definitely did not taste any cheddar. I didn’t taste the English breakfast or pancakes but both looked delicious and the people who ordered them enjoyed them. We also tried the ginger shots and they were great. The restaurant is definitely not cheap and we had a couple of things that were not perfect but overall the experience of the actual restaurant and the food is worth a visit or two or three. Will definitely return to try more food options .

2 /5 Sian Nelson: Went here for brunch and was quite disappointed. We informed the staff member who took us to a table that I have reduced mobility but they still made us sit upstairs which was difficult, slow and painful for me. My French toast was big and soggy, not very flavourful and my "breakfast links" were cold when brought to our table. The chicken and waffles were tastier. I told a (different) staff member that my food wasnt good and they completely ignored me. Were decent people so we paid full price, around $80, tipped well and left (slowly and painfully back down the stairs)

5 /5 Charlie Laramy: Always a great time at this place. Not only is it very unique, literally down a graffiti lined alley - very cool in and of itself, it is so very much more. This time we say at their back bar and had drinks and apps. I highly recommend the Devils on Horseback. Great drinks, great food, great staff, great place.

5 /5 Redo P “Predo”: Our waiter John H. created a pleasant atmosphere from the get go. “Welcome to the upstairs.” His soft tone, attentive demeanor, and knowledge of the menus set the stage for a comfortable low key dining experience. The rustic decor, chill vibe, delicious cuisine, tasty drinks, and burst of color to the alley which leads to Freemans adds expression and an old time NYC feel. We will be back. Thank you Freemans and John H. Especially for the unexpected birthday treat.

5 /5 Britt: One of my favorite restaurants I have ever been to. I went for my 30th birthday dinner and the vibes were immaculate. It was so cozy and homey; it felt like you were visiting a European pub or hunting lodge. It’s a hidden gem tucked away in an urban art alley. I had the roasted duck and it was superb. I loved the interior design and seating of the place; it was so unique and eclectic and brilliant. Highly recommend.
