3 /5 Bruce Van Hise: My wife and I were married at the Glen Iris Inn 37 years ago, but this was the first time we stayed at the Inn and were looking forward to a two-night getaway. The Good: To a person, the staff is outstanding - friendly, helpful, and efficient. Five stars++. The location and setting are outstanding. First-time visitors to Letchworth State Park are often awestruck, and the Inn occupies a prime location within the park. The Just OK: The food served in the Inns dining room is a mixed bag. The menu is a bit old fashioned and IMO the portion sizes for all of the dishes are simply too big. Prices are on the high side. The Not-So-Good: The Inns building and guest rooms, and to a lesser extent its grounds, are far past due for a renovation. Preserving the historic significance of this 1800s property should be a top priority, but as things stand the facility is just dated and worn out. The Inns website should not claim the rooms are "recently redecorated," or that the room we booked is a "luxury suite." If New York State, the Inns operator, and/or private investors or donors funded a carefully planned, top-to-bottom renovation, IMO this property could offer a distinctive five-star experience.
