Greek Peak Mountain Resort -Food CA (Near Cortland)

4 /5 Adam and Laura W: We spent a week at Greek Peak as a family and had a fantastic time on the mountain. The skiing was excellent with wide trails, strong snowmaking, and a great mix of groomed and natural terrain. It was especially meaningful for me to return after about 25 years, having last skied here as a kid with my family. While the skiing exceeded expectations, the on-mountain dining experience was disappointing. Restaurant service was slow, with a 30 minute wait just to place a drink order, and the cafeteria offerings were very basic. During peak lunch hours, tables were consistently dirty, and there didn’t seem to be enough staff available to clean or wipe them down. On the positive side, the shuttle service was extremely convenient since we stayed in an Airbnb on the hill, making transportation easy throughout the week. We did not use the water park, so can’t comment on that aspect of the resort. Overall, Greek Peak is a great ski destination with excellent terrain and snow conditions. With cleaner facilities and improved food service, it would be an even better experience.

5 /5 Christopher Foster: I thought the place was great. Scenic views, a pool, water rides, great food, great staff and the list goes on and on. I did have two issues. In my experience, I had to pay for anything with plastic - no cash. And, my shower drain was clogged and I couldn’t get it fixed until the next day. However, it was great. The staff was awesome. I’m probably going to go skiing there this upcoming winter.

4 /5 CAP: Greek Peak Mountain Resort is a solid, family-friendly resort—just one where it helps to set expectations going in. The Hotel Overall, the hotel was decent and well-suited for families. We stayed in a suite, which was very spacious and comfortable layout-wise. That said, temperature control was a real issue: we had two floors, with the upper level unbearably hot while the lower level was cold, and the heating seemed off. Check-in was the biggest downside. We waited over two hours to get our room. It was a holiday weekend, so I understand the volume, but it still felt like poor planning or understaffing. After checking in on the 30th, the rest of the stay went smoothly. The beds were reasonably comfortable, though the sheets were a bit scratchy. Hot water was fine for the first three showers, but the fourth was cold, which felt odd for a resort. That said, everyone we interacted with was genuinely kind and helpful, which made it hard to be too critical. The Mountain This is where Greek Peak really shines. The scenery is beautiful and very relaxing, and it never felt overly crowded. It’s a great mountain for beginners, while still offering more challenging terrain for more seasoned skiers. We booked private lessons, and the instructors were excellent—knowledgeable, patient, and great with all skill levels. Equipment rentals were convenient but very slow, again possibly a staffing issue. Annoying, yes, but not enough to deter us from returning. We also went tubing, again slow, long lines but very fun. Would recommend giving it a shot if you are there for more than 1 day. Food Food was probably the biggest disappointment. Prices were shockingly high for what you get and coming from NJ, I wasn’t expecting NYC-level pricing for pretty average food. Flavors profiles were off, like they were trying things, that didnt really work, but Carvers was essentially the main dinner option unless you wanted to travel off-site. Trax is a solid lunch spot (right across the street), and the service there was noticeably better, as was the food, but guessing b/c those were more lunch like options (ie. things you couldnt really mess up.) Overall Greek Peak is a nice, family-friendly resort with beautiful surroundings, great instruction, and a relaxed mountain vibe. Just go in knowing you’re very much in the country, service can be slow, and food options are limited and expensive. Set expectations accordingly, and you’ll likely have a good time - we certainly would go back.

1 /5 Kelly Stewart: Upon our arrival around 3:30, we waited about 3 hours for our room to be ready. We had to keep checking with the front desk, and several other families were also waiting. We spoke with the manager and she said holiday times run later, which is fine, but the front desk said people were checking in way earlier than us without issues. They suggested we bring our luggage in and wait in the lobby since it was 20 degrees outside. Waiting inside was fine, but after three hours it was completely unacceptable. We didn’t access our room until about 6:45 PM, and the two connecting rooms weren’t even ready so all 8 of us with all the luggage crammed in one room for another hour until they were done. Then we found out the waterpark closes at 7:00 PM, which is ridiculous for a resort. If check-in isn’t until 3–4 PM, why would the main attraction in the hotel close at 7? The manager told us that none of this was her problem and her “solution” was basically for 8 people to move luggage back to the car in freezing weather, change in a bathroom with winter clothes on, (not sure where to put all our clothes), utilize the pool, then go back out to get the suitcases after being in the pool with wet hair to get all the luggage. Might not be a huge deal for some but with 8 people it’s a lot to ask especially when I’m paying for a room to be ready so I can use it. Using the excuse that the rooms were “really dirty” the night before felt ridiculous and unprofessional. We followed directions and checked in at the correct time, and we were the ones who got screwed. We asked for any type of compensation since it was a major inconvenience, and she told us it wasn’t their fault. I asked for a at least a late checkout on Friday so we could use the pool, and no one ever got back to me. The next day we paid $50 per person for a “nice” New Year’s Eve party, but people were dressed like they just got out of bed, the food was ICE COLD, the appetizers were basically Costco, couldn’t even get more water at the table. The party was yet another disappointment, so we left right after our overpriced meal. We explained the issues with the NYE event and the front desk said we weren’t the only ones upset—people at the bar were also complaining. They said a manager Jen would call us back, and of course, no call even a week later. We also purchased a s’mores kit from the front desk and were told someone would start the bonfire. An hour later, still no bonfire, it never happened. We had 8 adults on this trip and it was a complete letdown besides the skiing, George at the bar, and the food at the hotel restaurant (which was top notch). Management was unresponsive, took no accountability, never followed up, and showed no compassion for how this affected the vacation for two families. We live in FL and been to MANY resorts, my daughter works for Hilton so many hotels as well and I’ve never been to one where management is that rude and doesn’t take ANY responsibility. The girls at the front desk were dealing with angry guests while answering phones, and there were no managers in sight.

1 /5 Oot N’ aboot: A season pass at Greek Peak is $1000. I got a season pass in Switzerland for that price and it included 3 different resorts in the Swiss Alps, bus and train fare. It has become so expensive to ski or snowboard in the United States, it is cheaper for you to fly to France and ski for a week than to spend a week skiing in the US. It was already expensive growing up to go skiing or snowboarding as a kid, but now it’s like kids don’t stand a chance unless their parents are rich. I got my son rentals, a lesson, and a lift ticket for the green slopes and that set me back over $130. Also, the terrain park was never good here growing up. For those of you that want a good terrain park, go to Labrador mountain. Also the food isn’t great and very expensive
