3 /5 Jackie Adler: This spot had been on my list of places to try for awhile, so I was excited to finally have the opportunity to stop by on a Sunday afternoon.
I would start by saying that the space itself wasnt what I expected. For some reason, I was thinking more restaurant, and this was more of the dive bar vibe. Theres nothing wrong with that, it just surprised me.
Our waitress that day was lovely. She was running front of house by herself, from hostess to bartender to waitress. She did a great job moving between tasks and circulating to customers.
The food was a mixed bag. We started with an order of cheese fries. The fries themselves were delicious - thin and crisp. Our only wish was for more cheese as only half or so of them had any topping. Both of us opted for a side Caesar salad with our meals. The portion was definitely decent, and overall, it was very good. We both also loved the Gouda burger we split. This is not an option you see in many places, and the combo of flavors was delicious.
However, the sad part of our meal was the Captains basket. There were no clam strips, so hubby switched to the calamari, and we agreed I would eat the shrimp as I dont enjoy calamari. He ate some of the calamari when the basket arrived but didnt love them. The shrimp - which we didnt realize until after ordering was going to be buffalo style - were too spicy to eat. We both tried them, and it was like they had been soaked in straight hot sauce. There was no need to complain as this is just how they are served. The fish was good, but overall, it was not an entree worth the $30 cost.
If you are in the area and looking for a good burger and fries, I can recommend stopping by. However, it is not a place I would purposely go out of my way to return to with so many options in the area.
