3 /5 Bonnie Esrig: I selected The Whistling Kettle for dinner on my actual birthday because I thought my sister, visiting from out of town, would get a kick out of the 3 tiered presentation of "afternoon tea". While most of our food was good, the extremely poor service was surprising. Wed been eating out all week and never encountered such a dismissive attitude towards the patrons. When the food arrived, my sister noticed that they forgot the dressing for her salad. We could not get the attention of our server so eventually she stopped the young man clearing tables and he got her some. Later in the meal, she had finished her water and mine was getting low. We had to work very hard to get the attention of our server, who was standing near the back chatting with 2 other staff. I tried waving, standing up, etc. to no avail. She then held up her glass continuously and eventually was noticed and we got the water. The limited service was at best perfunctory and we were certainly not treated as welcomed guests. Very disappointing. And while, as a senior citizen, Ive had plenty of birthdays, it was interesting to me that even though my sister brought a gift and cards to give me before the meal, the waiter (Robert) didnt even bother to say a thing, like just "oh, celebrating a special event? enjoy". I dont care that he didnt say anything but I think it reflects the attitude projected. Take our order, put the food on the table, come back with a bill, and get out.
