5 /5 Marcus Barkley: This one was on my short list for acclaimed Pittsburgh area diners that I hadnt gotten to try. I dont often get a chance to have breakfast out because of my work schedule, and when I do, its usually Mondays, when Davids Diner is closed. So when I got a random Thursday off with my family, I knew a I had to give it a shot- and I wasnt disappointed.
Davids Diner is a small place off of Freeport in Springdale, and you get a feel even before you walk in the door that this place has a lot of history and local appeal. The dining room is small, but not unexpected or two tiny to handle a decent sized crowd. While we were there, they turned tables quickly and consistently. The staff was pleasant and attentive and thoughtful.
They are known for their very large pancakes, and the whole family got some iteration of them. These are serious cakes- not only big, but also extremely toothsome and thick. Not in a way that makes them any less tasty, just know even eating one with any breakfast side takes a good bit of hunger.
We also got three different meats among us, and all three tasted fresh and definitely not like the cookie cutter Sysco sides so many places utilize. My side of ham was thick and flavorful, one of the better breakfast hams Ive had in the area. And the prices overall were quite fair, especially for the amount of food everyone had on their plate, which included some leftovers for all four of us.
Overall, this Diner lives up to the area hype, combining enjoyable food at nice prices in a pleasant atmosphere accented by a nice and caring staff. Definitely worth a go if youre around the Springdale area when they are open.
