Portia Melita I moved to the neighborhood from Brooklyn recently. One day while walking around, I passed this unassuming place. The only indication that it was open was a chair outside with a bouquet of flowers to pin down a paper menu to the chair. The menu looked divine. A few days later I walked past, showing my partner that the place almost seemed closed from the outside but was very cute inside. Someone who worked there came out as we were looking and was very kind, asking us if we had reservations yet. We said no but booked immediately. The first time I visited, I had the sourdough, Marinated Mussels (hakurei turnips, miso, chili oil), Carrot (crab, brown butter), Shrimp (peaches, coppa, toasted marcona almonds), and Gnudi (corn& basil). It was an entirely no-skips meal. The mussels came cold, out of their shell, and the sauce was incredible. The “carrot” was more like a crab cake with coconut, brown butter, and an unidentifiable but delightful citrus. A perfect balance of rich & light. The gnudi seemed simple, but the lightly spicy sauce really pulled all the ingredients together. Finally, the shrimp with peaches really knocked my socks off. Lots of places will make “seasonal” menus but not put the effort into making sure that produce is top notch. The peaches would’ve been delicious on their own, but with the rest of the dish, they really shined. The second time I went (just a few weeks later) I got the Chicory Salad (anchovy, buttermilk, comte), the Steelhead Trout (sungold tomato, perilla), and a tuna crudo special. I also re-ordered the bread, the carrot with crab, and the gnudi. Everything was just as good as last time, and the new additions were truly worth trying. Something as simple as a chicory salad can be so hit or miss - but WOW! For dessert we had the cherry brown butter tart with crème fraiche. No complaints at all here. Now I’ve rambled on plenty about the delicious food, which I will be back for very soon, but I truly haven’t ever been to a place with better service. The workers are extremely attentive and kind. I felt like I’ve known everyone there for a long time. Thank you, Illata, for being such a wonderful neighborhood spot.

J Vibe: Warm, cozy, and eclectically cool. Staff/Owner: Inviting. Makes you feel like you are family. Food: Amazing! I try to get out and about every Saturday. This will most likely be the weekend stop. We ordered Marry Me Chicken, Pepperoni Eggrolls, Crazy Shrimp Ramen Noodle Platter that is perfectly spicy, and the Seafood Boil - without Crawfish (our choice) Everything was seasoned and tasted incredible. The Marry Me Chicken is enough to feed 2, so definitely had to get most of it to go. Were excited for a new spot that isnt just pizza, burgers, or subs - which they do have in case you have a picky eater in your group. Definitely worth it to stop in and try.

Stephen Hinkle Oh, man. This is so good. A fully loaded baked potato with jalapenos, pulled pork, sour cream, and liquid cheese is a delectable meal choice. I cant wait for my next trip back so I can have another. Very filling. Give it a try!

Kathleen Nice hotel. We took a road trip to see Falling Water, this hotel was about a 40 minute drive from there. It’s a nice clean hotel in the city with several restaurants and some shopping nearby. Perfect for a night layover on a road trip but nothing special. However, the staff are very friendly and helpful, making for a pleasant stay. There was a bridge tournament going on in the lobby when we arrived and with the exception of a couple of wedding parties staying, the vast majority of the clientele was older. This made me comfortable that the hotel was a safe choice. If I could make a recommendation, it would be to update the decor. While it is clean and in very good shape, the decor is very dated and dark. There is a floral theme in keeping with the “Garden Inn” but the color scheme is straight out of the 70’s…brown, burnt orange, and mustard yellow predominate.

Joe Inman The person who took care of my wife and I was very friendly, attentive and helpful. My wife has a gluten allergy and she was able to find something very good to eat. We found the place to be clean and neat though not intimate or aestically fanciful. The food portions were a bit much for us and we ended up taking some home.

Brion Maguire I had the Italian beef sandwich and side salad. Both were fresh and excellent. The people working there were very nice and attentive.
