3 /5 Jill B: We arrived around 9:15 a. There was just one other party in the establishment.
We had many questions about the menu. One in particular was how much would it be for cream chip beef all over toast and potatoes? We were told $17. What! It is usually a 2-3 dollar up charge every where we’ve been.
Ordered:
Cream Chip Beef over potato only
Side of scrapple
Chicken salad sandwich on rye
Side of home fries with onion
2 coffees
Coffee was served warm, not hot. Had a good flavor.
Cream chip beef was a small portion no where near the large portion they said it was. Home fries were sliced thin and not very crispy, some were hard not quite cooked. Toast came out 5 minutes before the entree.
The scrapple was good, deep fried.
The chicken salad sandwich was not very desirable. Tons of mayo, celery not finely chopped. Asked for rye bread, received white toast. When she checked on us I mentioned that she was argumentative and said you said toast (which I never did) she offered to remake it, I declined. The potatoes in my opinion (mine) were oily tasting. Not cooked crispy many were just covered in oil with cooked onions on top. I left them on the plate. Only ate 1/2 of the sandwich.
Service was okay. Items came out of the kitchen at different times.
Atmosphere wasn’t there. An older establishment in need of updating dark and very cold. Temperature in there was cold.
Should be noted only booths or seating at the counter. The only table in there had personal items on it. No seating.
Looked on google for a mom and pop restaurant and Steve and Mary’s came up.
No pictures sorry.
