3 /5 Michael Leicht: Overpriced and underfriendly.
Weve lived in York for six years now and have been going to the First Post all this time -- with mixed results. Generally, we have no major complaints, but there are a few pet peeves. And, unfortunately, our last visit on New Years Eve (2025) was our worst visit yet.
Lets start with the young ladies at the front desk. Their cordiality often seems forced. When we walk in, we always test them, saying, "hello," then deliberately pausing for a response. Most of the time, they cant be bothered to return our greeting. They just look at you with a "What do you want?" kinda look. This last visit was one of those times. Whatever. No biggie.
More importantly, the food has gotten more expensive, yet the portions have gotten much smaller. My girlfriend ordered the Fettucine Alfredo with salad on the side. For $25, she got a tiny bowl of pasta, with three shrimp, and half a plate of iceberg lettuce (see pic). We asked our young waiter if he had given us the correct order -- not raising our voices, mind you, just incredulous by this paltry serving. Offended, he threw up his hands, said, "Thats all we have," and stormed off.
We asked to see the manager and told him what occurred, letting him know that we are regulars and demand much more respect -- again, never raising our voices. With great tact, he calmly explained that, being late afternoon, we were still getting the "lunch portion." Okay, fine. Thats all that needed to be said. (Still not happy, but at least he explained the situation.) Moreover, he gave us half off the Alfredo. We thanked him.
To his credit, our waiter did apologize and wish us a Happy New Year, and we returned the sentiment. (This is why there are three, not two, stars.)
While we may return at some point, to see if theyve taken any of this to heart, were still going to search for a new "go-to" in the area.
