Hotel El Capitan - (Near Van Horn, TX)

5 /5 Galaxie Solutions LLC: We absolutely loved this place! We stayed here both on our way to visit family and the trip back home (a half way point for us)and was recommended to us by family. It is such a charming place. Friendly, welcoming and accommodating. It is and old building that has been very well remodeled while still keeping its old west charm. Love that they are dog friendly. Rooms were very, very clean. Beds were ultra comfortable and quality bedding. We had a king bed suite type room. Dinner which was delicious. The ground prime rib cheeseburger was the best burger Ive ever had and the fries were outstanding. Had an El Capitan Old Fashioned which was delicious. You will want to arrive early (we were there on a Saturday evening) because it was super busy. Service was a little slow but our server was super nice the food was so great that it didnt matter to us. Breakfast offers a decent variety but it is serve yourself. Lots of options; waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries, cereal, breads, juices etc... Would definitely stay here again.

5 /5 Kes Thornley: By far the highlight of Van Horn! Unfortunately my company booked me into another hotel as I passed through the area, but I walked the mile or so to the El Captain for dinner and was definitely not disappointed. I sat at the bar enjoyed the fresh kale and apple salad followed by the house burger with all the trimmings and both were delicious. On my way out, I popped to the washroom and to my delight there was a cute little gift shop in the hotel reception selling local goods. If you’re ever in the area and want to go where the locals go, this is the place to go.

5 /5 jesse glance: Great place to stay, a true historic gem of a Hotel. The restaurant is fantastic, try the pistachio encrusted chicken fried steak with jalapeño cream gravy ,absolutely delicious. Possibly the best Chicken fried steak in Texas!

4 /5 A McDowell: Cool historic hotel with great public spaces and a nice restaurant/bar with a solid menu. Service was terrific. Be prepared to awaken early as the room doors make loud slams so as soon as one or two are awake everyone is awake. It’s in a stretch where there’s nothing very good except cheap roadside hotels so I’m glad we stayed for the experience and dinner even though I would have liked more sleep.

5 /5 Ron and Lisa "Blessing Tree Farm" Vickers: Our favorite stop on our way to see family in Arizona. We visit at least twice a year from Arkansas and wouldnt stay anywhere else. Always welcoming, great staff, and delicious restaurant. The last time we stayed I left my smart watch in our room, and they called to let me know they found it. They always go beyond what you would expect.
