brenners on the bayou

Brenners on the Bayou - Houston

Rating: 4.4 /5
Greg’s Local Guide to Houston Brenner’s on the Bayou — A Houston Original 1936. In a city that loves to bulldoze its history to build the next strip mall, Brenner’s is still standing. You feel that weight the moment you walk in. It’s not dusty. It’s confident. It’s the kind of place that hasn’t chased a trend in eighty years because it never needed to. We sat at a table overlooking the bayou. You don’t get the wide-open, postcard vista here. You get trees. You get shadows. You catch pieces of the sunset fighting through the branches. It’s a subtle kind of luxury. Most places shout for your attention; this view just lets you know it’s there. We started with the basics. Pellegrino. Lime. I asked to swap the tequila in the Dragon Fruit Margarita for Lalo—additive-free—and they didnt blink. That sets a tone. It tells you this is a bar that understands the difference between a drink and a cocktail. The food was a conversation between the past and the present. The bread? Forgettable. A missed note. But the oysters arrived in a rolling fog of dry ice. A little bit of theater, sure, but the brine underneath was real. The "Texas Kiss" shrimp did something shrimp shouldnt do—it made blue cheese work. I don’t usually like it. But tonight, I did. I went with the bone-in New York strip. It had that honest, heavy char. But my date’s skirt steak... that was the thief that stole the night. Served with German potatoes and an egg, it was deeply flavorful and impossibly tender. That plate didnt just feed you; it justified the drive. The service, however, was where the spell broke. Missed cues. A lack of polish on the menu knowledge. When the room is this assured, the stumbling stands out. It didn’t ruin the night, but it reminded us that perfection is a moving target. The Brenner family may be gone, but the bones of what they built are still here. It’s a classic steakhouse, comfortable in its own skin, unchanged in the ways that matter. We’d return. And really, that’s the only review that counts.
kirans

Kirans - Houston

Rating: 4.4 /5
Muthu Raja Sankar Visited Kiran’s for the second time with colleagues and clients — it never disappoints. The food and service are always top-notch. The thali options for the main course are a great touch, though serving them on a traditional thali plate would make it even more convenient and authentic. Overall, a wonderful dining experience with great flavors and presentation!
riondos ristorante

Riondos Ristorante - Galveston

Rating: 4.5 /5
Terri Downey We stopped in and had a wonderful experience for happy hour. We had the fried ravioli which was fantastic. Our waiter brought out their marinara sauce and suggested a dollop on top to elevate the flavor and he was right, so good. I had the lemon drop martini and it was so fresh, a heavy pour and the glass was ice cold. My husband got the whiskey flight and was very pleased with the suggested options to try. The happy hour prices were awesome, especially in these times when everything is so pricey. We will definitely stop in for dinner next time we are in Galveston.

La Stella Cucina Verace - Dallas

Rating: 4.8 /5
Cyril When it comes to Italian restaurants, a lot of what they usually offer is a hit or a miss. Usually, the sauce might be a bit off or the seasoning is low. In La Stellas case, Im ecstatic to say that not true for them. Every single dish we ordered, without exception, has been served in exceptional quality. I took my girlfriend here to celebrate my birthday and we went for a full course experience. Our drinks the Penelope and the Arrevaderci. The fantastic flavors from both had already set a high expectation for the later dishes we got. Our appetizer was the pictured Fritto Misto, consisting of fried calamari, shrimp and other seafood. The marinara that accompanied it was expertly mixed and we found ourselves quickly using the entire dip up before we realized it was gone. Our entries were two pastas, the Agnolotti Pizzicati and the Paccheri, and the Wagyu Ribeye. The veal flavor from the Agnolotti was heavenly and rich, and the Pacherri was meaty and filling in all the best ways. The steak proved itself a fierce contender on its quality; I could still remember how tender it was when I ate it. The finale was the 10 layer cake along with Cappuccino, serving as a fantastic finish to an overall exemplary culinary experience. Our server, Andrew, had been very professional in showing us the dishes and what the place offered. He made the the already enjoyable experience even better, and me and my girlfriend quickly agreed to ask for him next time we come in on another special day. La Stella is an absolute 10/10 dining experience that everyone should experience at least one on a special occasion.
