5 /5 Manis Lu: Among the many steakhouses in Los Angeles, Alexander’s Steakhouse has always stood out with its distinct identity—and it’s my personal favorite. From the ambiance to the service to the dishes themselves, everything is impeccable. It’s exactly how I imagine an old-school romantic date night would feel.
Nestled right next to Pasadena City Hall, the atmosphere is elegant and refined, with a dining experience that feels like a ceremony. I truly felt like I had stepped into a classic film as the leading lady. While it’s a traditional upscale American steakhouse, the menu pleasantly surprises with refined Japanese influences. Here are a few unforgettable dishes from that evening:
Uni Toast
This was so good I’m seriously considering coming back just to take two orders to-go for lunch. Easily one of the top uni toasts I’ve ever had. Uni + wagyu is a winning combo, but the real star was the toast—layered, rich, and full of umami.
Beef Tartare
A literal work of art. Stunning presentation, and the taste? A solid 10/10.
Kobe Wagyu
The highlight of the night. No words needed for the satisfaction that comes from perfectly marbled Kobe beef. The six types of finishing salts were such a thoughtful touch.
Maine Lobster
Tender Boston lobster paired with a yuzu butter sauce—perfectly balanced and refreshing.
Beyond the food, the cocktails we ordered—Make You Look and Blood & Flowers—were absolutely gorgeous (almost too pretty to drink). Even the complimentary bread was served with three kinds of butter, and we were surprised with handmade marshmallows at the end. Every single detail met the high standards of fine dining. Whether it’s a first date, anniversary, or birthday dinner, this place never disappoints.
