Gumbas Italian Restaurant - (Near Sunnyvale, CA)

4 /5 Wong Tim (Photo & Tech Alakai): Solid New York style pizzeria. Sizes are 10", 12", 14", 16", 18"and they make their own dough and marinara. Buffalo wings were really good as well. Service was stellar and attentive. Lots of outdoor dining seating for good weather.

5 /5 Kim Rasay: The homemade clamchowder got my attention since its flavorful and rich without being salty. The lenguine pasta and the combo pizza has good portions and generous toppings. Overall, the very good food and the friendly staff made me open my phone to give this restaurant a 5-star review.

2 /5 Yuan LIU: Gumbas Italian Restaurant is located at the very walkable town center of Sunnyvale. Super! In summer evenings, they spread out on the walkable street. Nice! There was a saxophonist playing right across. Sweet! I have no compliant about food. (Deserts are better than main dish and appetizer in my opinion.) This would make an enjoyable dining experience if not for the lousy service. When we arrived around 5:45pm on a Friday evening, there was barely any diner. The waiter was quick to take order. But after food came, they didnt come to take out used plates. With the extremely tiny round table and two empty apetizer dishes, we could barely eat main dishes normally. The entire time we were there, the dining areas inside and out were mostly empty. After we finished the main dishes, we had to wait like 20 minutes before someone showed up to remove the plates. This photo of empty plates standing atop the tiny table was the result of my bored waiting. There was no waiter around I could wave down. Even after empty plates were gone, desserts took another 10 minutes to come. The bill came shortly after desserts, and I put my card in the bill like I do in every other restaurant. We took our time to enjoy the desserts. But no one came to collect pay card. I had to walk in - like 10 minutes after we finished (for a total of nearly half hour since the card was visible on the table). As the sole person in that area, I stood at the counter for like 5 more minutes till someone attended to set up transaction. Murphy Avenue has no shortage of of nice restaurants to enjoy outdoor dining and free music, some of them in the immediate vincity of Gumbas. I cannot find a good reason to go back.

2 /5 sholeh ja: We enjoyed the service and the outdoor sitting but not the food. The pesto with prawns, didn’t have prawns but few small shrimps (yes, I’m getting very technical but that is because I know tiny shrimps are not called prawns). This dish was very oily and heavy, because the pesto sauce had huge amounts of oil and cheese but no pine nuts nor basil ( the two main ingredients). Also the pesto sauce tasted raw, as if it was only added to the pasta plate and not tossed in the pan. The meatballs were tasteless and bland with a smooshed soft meat texture which was unpleasant.

5 /5 Sneha Mirajkar: It’s my birthday today and I didn’t want a very noisy celebration so we opted for classic Italian style food place and we went Gumba’s in Downtown Sunnyvale. The place is lovely the vibe is just right, we chose to sit outside for lunch and it was a pleasant afternoon. The service was quick, the staff was kind. The overall atmosphere was great Now coming to the food, being a vegetarian it’s a bit tricky to find places that caters the need and boy was i surprised?? On yeah totally. The menu had so many vegetarian options to begin with The pasta came with a side of soup or salad and garlic bread About the pasta, I haven’t tasted such delicious and delightful pasta in a while, the portions were generous enough and amazing. Absolutely worth it. I can’t believe I didn’t go here sooner. It’s definitely a repeat place.
