TWO GOATS & THE GOOSE - Bakersfield

Rating: 4.1 /5
Garrett Henson First time in and had a pleasant experience. The lady behind the bar was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and polite. They have a wide variety of mixed drinks with fresh ingredients, which is a rare sight. They have a good selection of drinks in cans and bottles as well. I just went for a beer but my friend got a blackberry mule (no picture) that was pretty tasty. We ordered some food, tri tip fries and a cheesesteak dog. Both food items were good but I think the hotdog was a better deal, no pictures either, but the hotdog is loaded! It’s pretty quaint inside. There’s a small patio off to the side. Pretty clean inside too. Overall would I’d go back.

The Midway - Santa Cruz

Rating: 4.7 /5
Benjamin Ow My wife and I just finished an incredible dinner at The Midway. The atmosphere was casual and inviting and the service was friendly and attentive. The food was the star of the show. The menu was relatively small, but there was a wide variety of dishes that were clearly carefully thought out and based on the freshest seasonal ingredients. We started out with the house made sourdough bread and butter. The four generous slices of bread were hearty, with a soft inside and thicker crust. Very tasty. Next we had the chicory salad which was reminiscent of a gourmet Caesar salad with the most beautiful chicory leaves imaginable, crunchy breadcrumbs, and finely grated Parmesan. Fantastic dish. Next we had homemade pappardelle with black trumpet and chanterelle mushrooms and shaved brussel sprouts. The flavors were very subtle, but the really scrumptious. The fresh and bright flavors shined through. Next we had the Mt. Lassen trout on chickpeas and butternut squash. The trout skin had a wonderful char and the flavors of the chickpeas and butternut squash really combined nicely. We finished with the braised beef dish on mashed potatoes with roasted carrots, mushrooms, and a salsa verde sauce. This dish blew us away. The beef was perfectly braised so it was super tender, extra flavorful, and not fatty at all. The mashed potatoes, roasted carrots and mushrooms paired perfectly with the beef and the salsa verde took the wonderful dish to a new level. In summary, this is the best meal we’ve had in Santa Cruz in a very long time. The quality of the ingredients and preparation was top notch and all of the dishes were reasonably priced. We can’t wait to go back again soon!

Truth Unicorn Great quality SoulFood in the Northern California Bay Area, near Travis AFB. I’ve been here a few times. After the first, I had to return another go and it didn’t disappoint. I believe It’s also black owned. The serving staff really impressed me with their courtesy and sense of urgency in serving me. It was packed when I visited because the food is that good. This is the real deal type of SoulFood. They go far above and beyond delivering excellent customer/food service. The quality of food is what I wanted and expected. I was completely satisfied with the service that I received here. It’s a nice family style/oriented setup and atmosphere. Will definitely come back and eat here again when/if I’m in the area. Paloma - Santa Barbara

bridget We were in town for a wedding that happened to fall on Mother’s Day weekend. Thankfully, my son and husband had the foresight to make reservations in advance (with a little nudging… wink, wink). They picked the spot, and it was perfect. We sat outside—beautiful weather, stunning bougainvillea, and gorgeous landscaping all around. The staff were warm, attentive, and incredibly accommodating. The food was exceptionally fresh, flavorful, and delicious. Truly unique spices and combinations. Having moved from the West Coast to the East Coast (native Californians!), it was such a treat to experience the unmatched quality of California produce again—though we’re beyond grateful and happy with our East Coast life. Life is GOOD! Highly recommended. If we’re back in the area, we’ll absolutely be returning!
