McCormick & Schmicks Grille - Anaheim

Nate Crawford We got lucky and had a privacy booth. Made our meal somewhat intimate and I think that added to the ambiance. We started with the candied walnut salad. Definitely recommend it. Perfect balance of sweet and balsamic on a bed of greens. From there we had the stuffed salmon and ribeye! Both were outstanding, but the steak was top 5 ever for me. So full of flavor and cooked perfectly to my desired medium-plus temperature. Of course we saved room for dessert. We did the crème brûlée and followed up with the chocolate box. Never had anything like that before…. Absolutely delectable and could be shared by 4 so consider yourselves warned. Will for sure be back!

Barbareño - Santa Barbara

Gorland G. We had a great time here. The service was superb, and the food was excellent. We liked the sourdough with cultured butter/local olive oil/bacon-date jam. The crispy potato skin chips that came with the burger were delicious and creative — absolutely one of a kind! I also enjoyed the mussels; this was the only place I’ve been to where they removed the beards (the hairy part) from the mussels before cooking. The only thing I would point out is that the portions for the mussels dish and the pasta dish were really small — more like appetizer size instead of entrée size. Keep that in mind when you order. Overall, it was a great experience for us!

Brian Nguyen Really an amazing meal. Was not expecting much from a clam chowder and shrimp salad. Boy, was I surprised. 10/10. Such charming architecture too

cody cavanaugh Fantastic service—extremely knowledgeable about the menu with well-vetted, high-quality suggestions. The atmosphere was very comforting, truly felt like home. The hamachi dish was the best I’ve ever had—absolutely don’t miss it. God bless, and thank you for the amazing service and an unforgettable meal.

Larsens Grill -- Oxnard - Oxnard

A & B Life Adventures My wife and I went to Larsen’s Grill located in Oxnard at the Collection to celebrate a special occasion. Larsen’s Grill was a fantastic experience and one of the best tasting food we have ever had in Ventura County. The staff is extremely nice and attentive. The signature drinks are a hit, they were delicious and perfectly prepared. A friend recommended the steaks from Larsen’s so we had to try them. I got the dry aged ribeye steak with the blue cheese steak topper and mushrooms with mac & cheese as a side. My wife got the wet aged New York Steak with Brussels sprouts as her side. The steaks were of excellent quality and tasted fantastic. The salads were also delicious, I recommend the wedge side salad and it was topped with the best tasting bacon. The restaurant has a great bar area with a live piano player. Overall the restaurant had a great vibe and the food was incredible. If you want to have an excellent dinning experience, I would highly recommend Larsen’s Grill in Oxnard at the Collection.

Cowboy Star Restaurant and Butcher Shop - San Diego

Zan Lee Stopped in last night as a party of four on a rainy December 27 evening and I am happy to report that we all had a wonderful meal. Half of us have been here quite a few times and the other half it was their first time. Cowboy Star is unique to San Diego in that it is an elevated country themed steakhouse. Imagine something you would see in Austin Texas or somewhere along those lines and almost has a saloon feel to it. Inside is very dark and romantic, and not very large which really adds to the coziness of it. They don’t have any dedicated parking or valet so it will be a pay lot or street parking, we were able to find a street spot a block away, so it wasn’t too bad, luckily we had umbrellas. In the front of the restaurant is a large full bar with tons of wine and cocktail options. It’s a great place to stop in just for a drink or if you’re in the mood for dinner, the second half of the restaurant is filled with booths, tables, counter seating at the kitchen, and a large private room in the back. I love how dark and styled it is inside and it’s really a sort of place that you want to spend many hours. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out pretty fast. They have a fairly large menu so there are a lot of great options on it, but their specialty is steak and cocktails. I started off with the Steak Tartare and really enjoyed it. It had some very hearty flavors and the portion size was nice, it was not too large or too small. We also ordered the Bone Marrow, which wasn’t as good as I usually get. This version was a bit too buttery, but it still had some nice flavors, I would just go easy on the butter in the future. For my entrée, I chose the 8oz Filet Mignon with a side of Peppercorn Sauce and honestly really liked it. The steak was cooked perfectly, seasoned well, and I really appreciated the side of broccolini and mashed potatoes. After all this, we were too full for dessert, but they had a lot of great options on the menu, if I had some more room in my stomach, I would’ve got the Bread Pudding. Overall, I would say this is in one of the top 3 best steakhouses in San Diego. Steak 48 is still king, but this is a wonderful option and would be fabulous for a date, dinner with friends, or a work function. Cowboy Star is much better than Born & Raised in Little Italy, which shouldn’t be as popular as it is. I would highly recommend and plan to be back more times in the future and would happily send any friend or acquaintance here, knowing that they would have a great meal.
