Las Islitas Ostioneria - Woodland

Mohammed Iqbal Saleem ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Gem for Fresh, Flavor-Packed Mariscos! Las Islitas OstionerĂa is hands-down one of the best spots around for authentic Mexican seafood. If youre a fan of mariscos done right — bold, fresh, and loaded with flavor — this place should be at the top of your list. The vibe is casual and welcoming, with a strong local feel that makes you feel like you’re in on a delicious secret. The dĂ©cor has a coastal charm, with nautical touches that match the seafood-heavy menu. It’s perfect for a laid-back lunch, family dinner, or weekend seafood feast. Now, the food — absolutely stellar. I ordered the aguachile verde, tostadas de ceviche de camarĂłn, and the molcajete mixto, and each dish blew me away. The aguachile had just the right amount of heat, with super fresh shrimp and crisp cucumber slices soaking in a tangy, spicy marinade. The ceviche tostadas were packed high with flavor and had that ideal balance of lime, onion, and seafood. The molcajete came sizzling hot and loaded with shrimp, octopus, and other seafood treasures — it’s a must-try if you’re really hungry or sharing with someone. The staff was friendly, attentive, and happy to offer recommendations. Service was quick, and everything came out fresh. I also appreciated how clean and organized the place was, which is always a big plus when it comes to seafood spots. Prices are more than fair for the portion sizes and freshness. You definitely get quality here — both in ingredients and preparation. Whether youre a mariscos veteran or trying Mexican seafood for the first time, Las Islitas delivers a memorable, flavor-packed experience. Highly recommend it if you’re craving seafood with serious flavor. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Petiscos "Downtown" - San Jose

narae kim I was really looking forward to trying authentic Portuguese food today. Overall, the flavors were on the saltier side for a Michelin-rated restaurant, and the wine list wasn’t very extensive. Corkage is $45. Compared to other Portuguese restaurants I’ve tried in San Jose, a few dishes here are quite close to the authentic local taste. The white sangria was pleasantly balanced—not too sweet—and very refreshing. The blood sausage was chewy, aromatic, and tasted truly authentic, with just the right amount of salt. The duck rice was my absolute favorite. The seasoning was perfect for my taste, and I loved the chewy texture and the rich, layered broth with mushrooms—it was full of depth and flavor. The cod casserole tasted like a gratin, but it was way too salty. If it were slightly less salty, it would have been much better. Still, it paired nicely with the duck rice—but I probably wouldn’t order it again. The tempura beans were crispy on the outside with a nice bite from the beans inside—tasty but nothing special. The house aioli wasn’t the traditional Portuguese or Spanish yolk-heavy version; it was more like the American-style aioli. I would definitely come back for the blood sausage and duck rice—those two dishes are must-tries! Service was excellent—the staff replaced plates, cleaned the table promptly, and were very polite throughout.

Sean Tompkins Good use of space and building atmosphere.  Greeted instantly and seated quickly.  Server was very warm and friendly, and tolerated our chatty tendency.  Wide menu selection, and, as advertised, 500+ whiskies to choose from.  I went with a flight so I could sample a few that Id not yet tried.  For me it happened to be a burger-kinda evening (bacon & jam!), and theirs didnt disappoint.  Caesar salad good, as was artichoke dip appetizer.  Very happy to stop in here for an evening.  Will revisit when again in town.

Moe Lwin My family and I often have dinner at this restaurant, and we absolutely love it. The Pakistani cuisine here has a flavor profile that reminds us of Burmese food—simple, yet delicious. Unlike other similar restaurants, the dishes aren’t overly seasoned, which we really appreciate.

matthew villegas Black bear is pretty consistent with their food and it’s good. Our server tonight was Bradley and probably the best service we have had. He greeted us as we walked in and sat us immediately. Introduced himself and told us about the specials and difference in menus, got us started on drinks and came back to take our order. This guy had multiple tables but consistently checked on us for any refills and how our food was tasting. I saw him and heard him giving the same service to every table. Excellent service and wished us happy holidays and thanked us for coming in. Hopefully Bradley is your next server.
