Cecily Burke It’s a tasting menu, so you will have whatever is seasonal and inspires the chefs. It will be served with an explanation from one of the many cordial and pleasant staff, and we (a party of four) found it intriguing and mostly delicious. Many courses, some very light, most just 2-3 bites - so we didn’t leave feeling overfilled, just fulfilled. The oysters served two ways was our favorite course. Any disappointments? Only the cocktails, which 3 of us ordered, and no one thought were splendid. I ordered wine (Sauvignon Blanc). There’s not a lot of choices for by the glass, but mine was perfect for this meal. We didn’t go for any of the pairing options (non-alcoholic, standard, and blow-the-budget.) Would we come again? Yes, we would!

Matsu - Oceanside

Marc Brown I planned to propose to my girlfriend on our Caribbean cruise near the end of December. An ill timed head cold ruined my plan. Before we made it back to San Diego, I plotted on a new venue to pop the question. Miraculously, Matsu had availability on NYE. I surprised my gf, a huge foodie, with the reservation. To my delight, it was on her list of restaurants in the area she wanted to try. I contacted the staff ahead of our reservation and coordinated a flower delivery. The food was delicious, we were stuffed in a good way by the end of courses. One of the servers brought out the flowers on cue and I asked the love of my life to marry me... she ugly cried and SAID YES! Apparently we were their first proposal. The staff was super accommodating and the GM even recorded the proposal from her stand. I highly recommend this restaurant if you love Japanese food or want to taste it done well.

BOA Steakhouse - Santa Monica

Juliette The steak was 10/10 - perfectly cooked. We ordered the wagyu tacos and tuna tartare for starters - both were amazing. The hot dinner rolls with garlic butter were so yummy! The Caesar salad made in front of you was delicious and the truffle fries were great too! Sticky toffee pudding came out for my birthday and I loved it - haven’t had a good one since I left London! Our server was wonderful, the decor is beautiful, great dining experience overall!

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar - Los Angeles

Rating: 4.5 /5
James Carter A perfect evening from start to finish! My experience at Flemings Prime Steakhouse & Wine was absolutely five-star. The ambiance was elegant and inviting, the service was impeccable, and the food was simply divine. I started with the seared scallops, which were cooked to perfection, followed by a filet mignon that was so tender it practically melted in my mouth. The wine list is extensive and our servers recommendation paired perfectly with our meal. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, making our special occasion feel even more memorable. This is the place to go for a truly exceptional dining experience.

Le Vallauris Restaurant - Palm Springs

Rating: 4.6 /5
Tamara Schwarting We chose Le Vallauris for dinner before attending the Palm Springs Pops at the Plaza Theater, and it was the perfect pairing. The location is ideal—an easy three-block walk to the theater, which made for a seamless and elegant evening. From start to finish, our experience at Le Vallauris was top notch. The restaurant itself is stunning. We dined outside beneath beautiful mature trees draped with lights, creating such a romantic and relaxed atmosphere—especially lovely for a Southern California evening. My husband and I both love French cuisine and were excited to try Le Vallauris, and it did not disappoint. The staff are truly attentive and professional. A junior waiter even noticed our table was slightly wobbly and fixed it immediately, without us having to mention it—those small details really stood out. I started with a French 75, and my husband had a whiskey sour. Both cocktails arrived promptly and were excellent. We shared the oysters of the night—Prince Edward Island oysters on the half shell—which were fresh and delicious, served with cocktail sauce and ponzu. (Pro tip: you can ask for horseradish, though the oysters were fantastic even without it.) For our next course, my husband enjoyed the lobster bisque. While there weren’t visible chunks of lobster, the flavor was rich and well-executed. I ordered the beef filet steak tartare, which was beautifully presented with toast points and the cutest little miniature eggs. It was very flavorful, though I personally would have liked just a touch more salt. For entrées, my husband had the veal medallions with mascarpone ravioli, peas, and spinach. The spinach was a surprise, but the dish was still very tasty. I chose the lobster entrée, served with a sweet corn cake and spinach. While premium-priced, it was excellent and worth it for a special occasion. We were a bit pressed for time due to our theater tickets, so we skipped dessert—but what we saw at neighboring tables looked amazing. A fun and unique touch was that the menu is presented on an easel right next to your table. This is definitely a splurge. Our total for two—cocktails, shared appetizer, courses, entrées, and tip—was around $325. Not an everyday dinner, but absolutely a memorable and special experience. We would happily return for another celebratory evening.
