Christina Wilburn My husband, son and I went to visit my daughter at college in Charleston, Illinois. We were getting ready to head back to Edwardsville, Illinois and begrudgingly stopped at Steak and Shake in Mattoon, Illinois. I say begrudgingly because since they have changed to pretty much self service, everything has gone downhill in our area. The service is horrible, the places are usually dirty and we just stopped going. When we entered this store, it was busy but the place was cleaner than ever. As soon as someone was leaving someone else was cleaning the table. They were short staffed yet the manager was out dropping food off to people so they didnt have to go and get it. The food was excellent. I do wish you guys had booster seats but he, not a big deal. I was extremely impressed with this restaurant and let the manager know as well. Will definitely be going back when visiting.

Steve W Omg, this place is amazing! Its like a trip back in time, great food, and lots of it. Wish I had fully appreciated this place when I was going to school in Carbondale, but I only went a handful of times. I have been trying to make up for the lost opportunity since by going every time I am back in town. Every breakfast item I have tried has been amazing, the biscuits and gravy are to die for! The French toast and pancakes are also spectacular. They give you a lot of food for a really good price, it takes me two or three meals to eat it all

Timothy Atkinson The Bloom Empire is alive and well! This fusion of Indo-American food is a must have. The food is so good, Im going to have to come here more often! The atmosphere is lovely, the balcony/basement is so cool, the staff is very friendly and service is prompt. Very reasonably priced too, entrees for about $10. I had the chicken panini and jalepeño poppers with a vanilla shake, 10/10 very good.

Lisa McCluskey If you want true, homemade Midwestern comfort food, head to the Elm Street Cafe. I had a streaming bowl of chicken and noodles, which was made with homemade noodles and large pieces of shredded chicken. Very flavorful. The side was Cole slaw, which was slightly heavy on the mayo but had a great taste. My brother ordered the catfish and it arrived crispy and steamy hot and he said it was very good. The entrees with two sides was $12.95. Service was delightful. Definitely will go again.
