Sammys Grill Highland -Food CA (Near Baton Rouge)

3 /5 Kaitlyn McDaniel: Food was okay overall, but our server was incredibly sweet and attentive, which really made the visit enjoyable. The bar area had a great atmosphere, so we expected the restaurant side to feel similar. It was nice and clean—just a very different vibe than what you experience when you walk in from the bar. My husband ordered the Beef Au Jus sandwich and said it was so good and absolutely worth the price. Even the small portion was generous, and they didn’t hold back on the fries. The fries themselves tasted like Ore-Ida frozen fries you could buy at the grocery store, but the portion size was great. I ordered the Cajun burger and would rate it a 4/10. It was slightly overcooked. I’d be willing to give it another try in case it was just an off day - the bun was fantastic, though. The sugar cane sauce was the part that threw me off. I expected sweet, but the unexpected hint of horseradish wasn’t my favorite. I also wasn’t a fan of the pork rinds on my salad in place of croutons. I may have overlooked that on the menu, so it caught me by surprise. Overall, the service was wonderful, the restaurant was clean, and there were definitely some highlights. With a few small tweaks, I think this place could easily become a spot we really enjoy. We’d be willing to give it another try!

5 /5 Sarah Houts: Whenever Im in Baton Rouge, I eat here at least once. Their red beans and rice are on point. The house salad with pork rind and Tabasco dressing are so good as well, but the red beans and rice are soooo good.

5 /5 Jeffro Tucker: We live in Fort Worth, Texas. This restaurant was recommended by a friend who used to live in the area. It didnt disappoint. We loved the food so much we ate here two different times within a week. The service was great. Our servers kept the drinks filled and checked on us several times. The food is delicious and plenty of food for the price. Prices range from $8.99‐25. When back in town, we will definitely be back!

2 /5 Nieman Matthew (osumatthew): I was visiting my brother here in Baton Rouge, and for my last day here I felt like going out for Gumbo and a Po Boy. Sammys had some good reviews, so we decided to eat there. Unfortunately, we had what I can confidently say is some of the worst service that Ive ever gotten from a restaurant. Our waiter took our order and dropped off my brothers salad, then we didnt hear anything for almost a half hour. The restaurant was almost completely empty when we initially arrived, but at least three other tables that came in after use got food in the interim, and our orders were pretty straightforward. We never got any explanation for why our food was so late and just got an offhand apology and notice that our food was "almost ready" when the waiter finally collected my brothers salad plate that had been sitting for about 20 minutes. The waiter never bothered to ask if we wanted drink refills (water) a single time even though we were in the restaurant for nearly an hour. This was the first time that I have ever not left a tip for my meal at a sit down restaurant, but the service was unforgivably bad. The food was at least pretty good though. The Oyster Po Boy was solid, and the Seafood Gumbo was delicious. My brother apparently enjoyed his Grilled Catfish. Its just such a shame that the service we got was so poor.

5 /5 Jace and Kala Cardon: Stopped into Sammys Grill for lunch and had the Thin fried catfish and white beans ( Substituted the white bean with a side of red beans and rice). It was enough for two people. Delicious food and great service. Another go to spot in Baton Rouge.
