David Gatti This place is THE SPOT. Writing this review as a cajun/creole food lover, and someone who has been regularly dissapointed by some of the "genuine" places in NOLA, this is a place that gets it right.
The shrimp poboy was stuffed, and I mean STUFFED with shrimp, with plenty of fixins, on great bread. These shrimp are big, juicy, perfectly tender, and most important of all SEASONED.
The gumbo mixes it up, in the best way. Youve got pretty traditional creole gumbo ingredients, but THE ROUX. This is a dark, cajun roux like only the real ones know. Earthy, herbal, and kicking you in the teeth. And like the poboy they dont skimp on you. Absolutely filled up with delicious sausage and seafood.
But let me tell you what youre really here for, and thats this etoufee. Listen...Im sorry I thought Id only want the side order. Itll never happen again. But this etoufee may have just replaced slows mac n cheese as my go-to comfort food. It hits every note. And it hits you different ways. On approach its got this warm, earthy vibe, almost like a really good mushroom risotto. But then you go in and BAM you get the sweet from the seafood and the trinity.
Other quick notes. Nothing was greasy; theres no film of seperated fat running everywhere (see pics!). And the ratio of rice to topping was perfect. All in all its fantastic food at great value. Easily enough food for two grown adults for right around $50. Will 100% be back and be telling others.
