3 /5 Michael Perry: ⭐⭐⭐
1700 Steakhouse is very convenient when staying at Hotel Paso del Norte, which is a big plus. Overall, the food was good, but the pricing definitely feels high for what you get.
We started with Caesar salads, which were solid, and appreciated the thoughtful extras like the amuse-bouche and intermezzo between courses — those touches were truly top-notch and elevated the experience. Service throughout the meal was excellent and very polished.
For entrées, we both ordered the 8 oz Filet. One was served with red wine demi and mushrooms, and the other with horseradish and asparagus. The steaks were cooked well and flavorful, though not quite at a level that justified the price point. We also ordered the side marrow, which was enjoyable but again felt expensive for the portion.
Dessert was crème brûlée, which unfortunately missed the mark. The sugar crust was far too thick, and the custard underneath was overly watery, throwing off the balance and texture. We also had Agua de Piedra (both carbonated and non-carbonated) with the meal.
In summary, the food is good and the service and course pacing are excellent, but the cost makes it hard to rate higher. A solid option for convenience and service, especially when staying at the hotel, just pricey for what you get.
