3 /5 Chris Stephenson: A Decent Start for a New Spot
We tried Hinoki last night, the new sushi place that just opened up. Overall, it was an okay experience, with some definite highlights and a few areas for improvement.
The best part of the meal was the service. Our server was attentive, friendly, and happy to answer all of our questions. From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming, which is always a great start.
The sushi itself was fine, but it didnt quite stand out. For the price point, we were expecting something a bit more memorable. While fresh, the rolls and nigiri were pretty standard and didnt have the unique flavors or presentation that you might find at other established sushi restaurants in the same price range.
One thing to note is that they dont have a full liquor license yet, so your only options are beer, wine, or sake. This wasnt a huge deal for us, but its good to know if youre hoping for a cocktail with your dinner.
Given that they are a new restaurant, Im sure they are still working out the kinks. With excellent service as a strong foundation, Im hopeful that the food will evolve to match. Its a decent option if youre in the area, but Id give them a little time to grow into their own.
