Lubys - (Near Brownsville, TX)

4 /5 Daviyion Johnson: Hadn’t been to Luby‘s in years and I was reminded that I used to love this place when I was a kid. I have the country-fried steak combo which came with two sides and bread. This cafeteria style place still has a variety of things in the menu that fall into the bucket of home-cooked meals and I really appreciate the nostalgia and the tastes. Mashed potatoes with cream gravy for the win!

1 /5 Michel Camargo: I was hesitant about posting this, but I feel I have to. On Tuesday, I showed up at around 6 o’clock in the evening to get some food for takeout for my family. Long story short, one of the dishes was a chicken fried chicken combo, where chicken was raw in the center. By the time we started eating, it was already too late to go back to the store, but I thought I would at least call the restaurant to let them know what it happened. On the first call, I got an employee that really did not care to hear what the issue was, and ended up hanging up on me. I ended up calling a second time, and the employee basically did the same, hung up on me after I tried explaining what was going on. Finally, on the third time I got a hold of someone, who said was a manager, and basically said that the kitchen staff had probably not checked the temperature. This is a serious health violation, and I am very surprised that it took three phone calls to get someone to take the concern seriously. It’s a shame what has happened to this location, as it used to be good. I don’t know what to say anymore.

4 /5 Heather H: I was skeptical and pleasantly surprised by how good the meal was I ate here today. The only thing I didnt like was not knowing what all the entree options were and I had to ask what things were. Anyway, they put out a fresh tray of a spinach and cheese stuffed chicken so that is what I ate with cabbage and sweet potatoes. My fiance got chicken fried steak and was happy it was actually cubed steak.

4 /5 Matt Padron: Stopped by on Thanksgiving around lunch time, so the place was packed. The food was a solid 4/5, comforting and exactly what you want from Luby’s, specificallythis chocolatecake I LOVED. Service was mixed, a few staff members were really on it, while others seemed overwhelmed and rude by the mounts of people. Still, the atmosphere (4/5) felt warm and festive despite the long line. Overall, a good holiday stop
