Tex-Rican Restaurant - (Near Killeen, TX)

Sebastian Agudelo We were driving in from out of state toward Houston when we decided to stop for breakfast after a long stretch on the road. We didn’t expect much except a quick bite. The moment we arrived, we were greeted with one of the friendliest and most welcoming atmospheres we’ve ever experienced. The Break of Day Breakfast Shop not only serves amazing food, but their hospitality truly makes the visit memorable. If you ever find yourself on Highway 59 in this area, do yourself a favor and stop by. It’s the very definition of home-style cooking with genuine Texas Southern hospitality.

Kim Galvan Loved everything about our experience here! Worth the drive to Walnut Springs. The queso and salsa were great starters. Queso was creamy and hot, and the salsa had just the right kick. We ordered the fajitas parrilladas, and they did not disappoint. Plenty of food for two (we even had some leftovers to take home). The jalapeño cheese sausage and beef were exceptional. The shrimp and chicken were cooked just right, and the onions & peppers were tender and full of flavor. Our fabulous server, Ivanna, suggested the tres leches for dessert, and it was aaaahhhhmazing. The fresh whipped cream was not too sweet, and it paired perfectly with the rich cake and caramel swirl. The simplicity of the decor made for a more upscale dining feel while the hospitality of the staff made us feel like long-lost friends. We will definitely take another road trip to Walnut Springs just to try more of the menu.

Dale Fischbach Initially they got my order a little off but they were super helpful to fix it and in a very expedient manner. They missed 2 sandwiches out of 10 but replaced them as soon as I called back. Great customer service and VERY professional and polite!! Well done. I will be back!

Chris Cline I used the app to place the order for pickup. The order was ready just as I was walking in. The staff was very friendly and handed me my order. The food was fantastic! I got the mos chopped Baker with Brisket. The brisket was moist with great flavor. The BBQ sauce was very tasty. I highly recomend!

Sedelia Cordero My family and I ate here for dinner on a Friday night. We were happy to be able to get in around 8 o’clock with a reservation made approximately an hour and a half before. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, Jalapeño, cornbread and chili as an appetizer. The brussels sprouts were absolutely delicious! They had the right amount of sweetness, along with a savory flavor. The jalapeño cornbread was served in a massive Texas cast-iron dish. They also gave us honey, butter, and pimento cheese to go with the cornbread. We really liked the chili, it was common Texas chili… No beans :) For dinner my son had the kids smash burger with mixed fruit, I had the Caesar salad with steak and my husband had the Scallops with corn risotto. My son devoured the smash burger and the fruit was very fresh! My husband said that the scallops were cooked to perfection and he loved the risotto and said that the flavor was on point. My salad was really good! Also, my steak was a perfect medium cook! For dessert my son’s kids meal came with a free dessert so he got a scoop of ice cream. I ordered the key lime crème brûlée. I am so upset that I did not take a picture of the crème brûlée, because it was so beautiful, but the picture does no justice to the taste! That is by far the best crème brûlée I have ever had! Because it was my husband‘s birthday, he got a free dessert and they gave him two cupcakes with a chocolate “ Happy birthday” piece in the middle. The atmosphere in this restaurant was great for a perfect quiet night out. We had had a long day and we’re happy that this restaurant was not super loud. They even had a live performer there, but it did not overtake the sound in the restaurant. Our waiter was outstanding! I feel bad that I cannot remember his name right now, but not only the server, but the older gentleman who was bringing out our food was also very courteous! We also got some good drinks to go with our meal, the bartender there was great!

Maxine Debutte We went for an early New Year’s Eve and birthday dinner. Service was excellent (as always) and the food was delicious. This is our favorite restaurant. Appetizer was incredible (tried the crab cakes). We both ordered the sweet tea fried chicken and it was cooked to perfection. For dessert my husband had the banana foster and we got a complimentary birthday key lime pie for me. Both were very good!
