Thomas H. This is an excellent Kebab spot with traditional offerings as well as newer fusion with Mediterranean and some Mexican influences. I highly suggest trying the koobideh patties. I really love them they were juicy and had a sumac crust. The sauces they have are very delightful. The traditional yogurt sauces were great but the sauce I fell in love with was that chipotle sumac sauce. The price is great here especially compared to other restaurants with the same offerings. This is truly a gem in Chula Vista. I see myself coming back quite a bit. I will be doing the video review soon.

Audrey Meeks This was our first time eating here and it was delicious. The food was so fresh! We had the shrimp and chicken bowl. The shrimp and chicken was seasoned and juicy. Anna greeted us and helped with our order. She was absolutely amazing, kind and professional. We will definitely be returning guests!

Roberto Madrigal Been eating there for years. Always have a good meal and leftovers that I gladly eat the next day. This past week dropped by to have a very tasty Caesar Grilled Chicken Salad and the Barbecue Chicken Pizza that was delicious. Even the lemonade was good. Have had the lasagna before and I recommend it.

Kathryn Kunz Didn’t come to Chula Vista expecting to have burgers, but saw this place, walked in and was greeted with the most amazing smile from the girl behind the bar, Keeran; we HAD to stay and try this place! We immediately felt welcome, as the service in this place is STELLAR! Had the Balboa burger, the buns are amazing;; buttery and soft! Burger patty was perfectly cooked, lettuce and tomato were extremely fresh! Let’s not forget about those garlic fries! WOW! Hand cut fries with just enough garlic awesomeness! To top it off, we got the Mazapan shake; there are no words for this decadent delight! As great as the food is here, the service is top notch! Keeran and the owner, didn’t get her name, we thank for a great time! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here and will definitely back!

TRUE BLUE9 Drinks are really good! Margarita was my favorite. Food was ok, they need special salsas for seafood; Some people cannot have oily salsa. The food presentation is a plus! They also have a nice way to celebrate birthdays… perfect place for happy hour after work!

Freddie Thornton Love the Mexican infusion into their Chinese food. I realize that the owners and most, if not all who work there, have probably immigrated into Chula Vista. With that said, I really enjoy the fusion of both food cultures. I am a big fan and will return over and over, time and time again.

Since our party was larger than four, I couldn’t book through the OpenTable website, so I called directly to make a reservation for six—and the process was smooth and welcoming from the start. We were celebrating my dad’s birthday, and the attention to detail from the moment we arrived was outstanding. The staff surprised him with a handwritten birthday card, which was such a thoughtful and personal touch—it immediately set the tone for the evening and made the occasion feel extra special. We started with a round of fresh oysters, which were delicious—perfectly chilled, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Most of us ordered the porterhouse steak, and it was absolutely incredible—cooked to perfection, tender, and full of rich, bold flavor. The drinks were fantastic as well. There was a moment when my sister didn’t like her cocktail, and the staff was more than happy to replace it with something she’d enjoy—no hesitation, just great hospitality. Later in the evening, after a few drinks and lots of laughter, I didn’t realize I had left behind the card I used to pay. To my surprise, the staff called me and left a voicemail to let me know and hold it for me. That level of honesty and care says so much about the kind of team they have—professional, attentive, and genuinely customer-focused. From start to finish, everything about our night was memorable: the service, the food, the drinks, and the little moments that made it all feel personal. I’ll always carry a great memory of this night and I’ve already recommended Old Hickory to several friends. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just want a top-tier dinner experience, this place is a must.

Shirley Fargo Celebrating a birthday, our group of three were impressed with the friendly service which was attentive but not overpowering. The wine steward/waiter was exceptionally knowledgeable about wine and even gave us a taste of a Caymus wine. I ordered the Cunundrum and it was outstanding. We ordered vegetarian pizza and lasagne with a shared Cesar salad and everyone was happy with their choices. We were never rushed and had a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a delightful afternoon/evening and great Italian food.

SuperNova 1987A I love Kalaveras! This place is beautifully decorated with vibrant Mexican-style calavera paintings that give it an authentic and festive vibe. There’s a huge TV perfect for watching sporting events, which makes it a great spot to hang out with friends or family. The service was top-notch—everyone was super attentive and friendly. We ordered the Molcajete, and it was absolutely delicious! It came loaded with beef, shrimp, chicken, avocado, nopales, and more. At $45, it’s definitely worth it and easily feeds two to three people. We also tried a flight of margaritas and a couple of their slushie margaritas—both were amazing and super refreshing. Overall, Kalaveras offers great food, an amazing atmosphere, and excellent service. Can’t wait to go back!
