Pour House Restaurant and Bar - Rockford

Rating: 4.3 /5
Dale Luttrell Nice atmosphere, good food, the fried cod was good nice and thick pieces with fries and a hush puppy. Grilled cheese was good and you get your choice of cheese. Serving Pepsi products with free refills. Con: salad bar needs to be raised for taller patrons and waitresses are still getting their routines but a nice place for home cooking.

Cured and Cultured - Belleville

Rating: 4.4 /5
sutherlandk19 My husband and I stopped in at Cured and Cultured for a late-in-the-day anniversary lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The place was empty (it was 2:30pm when we got there) and we had the whole place to ourselves. I really havent heard people talk about Cured and Cultured, which is surprising because the food was INCREDIBLE. Every bite of each food item is flavor-packed, and not too rich at the same time. The husband ordered sweet Thai chili- and lemon pepper-seasoned chicken wings with a side of french fries (deep fried in peanut oil I think) and sipped on some Woodford Reserve. I enjoyed Leos brisket sandwich (recommended to me by our very attentive server, Matt) with a side of bacon ranch pasta salad. The flavors complemented each other perfectly and the portion sizes were just right. The restaurant benefits from a full bar and a patio out back for warmer weather and live music. I was surprised to see a mini liquor store when we first walked in. I even questioned if we went to the right place because it doesnt even appear to be a restaurant. At the checkout counter is a deli where I believe customers can take home choice items. Im excited to return during the warmer months to try more food on their menu and enjoy some music on the back patio. It was wonderful to have such a great dining experience on that side of Belleville. Its providing a much-needed boost to the area. After tip for two people- an entree, a side, and an alcoholic drink per person; we spent more than $70. I get inflation, but I do wish food this good was more accessible. Updated note: Returned for my second visit two years later celebrating Fathers Day and my dad said their bleu cheese was the best hes ever had. Valerie took care of us on this visit and was so friendly and helpful. Eager for my next visit!

Taco Jims - Anna

Rating: 4.9 /5
Patrick Paddick Ill admit, when I ordered from a taco truck in Southern IL I wasnt expecting to be blown away by the food. I was wrong. I had the birria beef quesadilla and street corn. It was the best dang birria Ive had in a long time. It was like being punched in the mouth with flavor. The spice level is just right for me as well - a little bit of heat, but not enough to be overpowering. The shells were perfectly done and I swear I could drink the birria sauce. The street corn has an unexpected amount of flavor and texture, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Price wasnt bad, either. My fiance had the birria chicken tacos and rice. I only tried a bite of each, but both were every bit as amazing. I cant believe this guy is self-taught and is putting out this kind of food! If they catered, Id have Taco Jims do my wedding, it was that good. 10/10, cant wait to come back.

McHughs - Mattoon

Rating: 4.2 /5
Bill Sturma We stopped in for lunch while working in Mattoon last week. We ended up eating there 3 out of 5 days. Its was one of the best burgers Ive had from a fast food type restaurant. We had a group of 3 and managed to order both 1/4lb burger combos and the 1/2lb burger combos including the ones with bacon. The portions were more than expected and it was difficult to finish the burgers and large volume of fresh made fries. The fries are medium sized and remind me of what McDs fries used to be before they became the soggy mess they are now. If youre looking for a great, thick, and juicy burger with a lot of fries this is your place. 100% recommend and will return for sure. We ate outside the first day and then in the truck the 2nd and 3rd. We talked with another couple who were having the fish sandwich and a huge salad and they were also please with their meals and the great value for the money.

Steven Werder The place was excellent to me. Everything was just as we ordered and was well served. The downtown was a good spot for the restaurant. We really enjoyed the place.
